Supremely engineered. Get one of these. Cheap now used. I keep wanting to buy other bikes but the problem is my Blackbird...it does almost everything better than anything out there new or old. So any new ride would only be a 2nd bike. Yes, this bike was built by Honda to be world's fastest production bike and it was until being beat by Suzuki Hayabusa. Who cares? If you get to the 175mph or so the Blackbird will do, good for you. But the real genius of this bike is that it's an incredibly refined, brilliantly thought out, and super powerful all-arounder. It is not super heavy, it's low centre of gravity makes it so easy even in urban traffic. It's suspesion is only minimally adjustable but is set up just right. Great in twisties. Comfortable for touring. I installed VFR bars (2002 VTEC) and it was a big improvement. And it feels like it's screwed into pavement on freeways. Rock stable, and the power is just mental. It's a pussycat or tiger, ride it how you want.

Since the inception of the Superhawk I wanted one. When the blue color arrived I wanted one even more. I waited a year and bought it new in April '04. Being married with two children riding time has been limited. I had a 1987 CBR1000 and a couple of KX 500's before this. When I chose to purchase it, I was set on a new '02 CBR1100XX. The CBR was heavy and uncomfortable and with my height the Superhawk fit better. I enjoy the bike and the lightweight feel it has to it. I ride with a guy that has a Ducati Monster and my twin is smoother running than his. When we are at a stop light all I hear is the timing chain of the Duc. A year has passed and my bike has been very reliable... Ride Honda!!!

This bike is a gem. I put 30K miles on it: track days, lots of street, and a couple of 6 hour days. I consistently find that owners know and love this bike and the "experts" don't recommend it. It's not a dedicated race/track bike--of course. It took me 30K miles to grow out of it and upgrade to slightly better forks. I frequently blew away all brands: Ducati/Japanese/etc. I also received a lot of flack from other "riders" some talented, most not. Completely reliable enough to instill a ton of confidence from the rider. The only short-coming I see is the brakes: just add steel-braided on front ($65) and engine stalls after stoppies: reroute fuel lines. Biggest and goofiest myths: "Small tank and a gas guzzler" I won't even address gas mileage: it's a bike - enough said.
Tank: I could go a whole track day on one tank.
Touring: after 2 hours doesn't someone in the group need to fill up or use the restroom? I guess not.
Other myths: "It's a girl's bike" (?) Yes, in a way it's a good entry level performance bike with someone with some experience. Strengths: cheap! Pick a used one up with all the bells and whistles for nothing: just pay for tires and you're good to go! You can't break this thing. Totally flickable bike, carbs are incredibly smooth, comfortable, solid, tons of power, power band allows for a lot of ease in accelerating/deccelerating, etc.

Any fast corners or open stretches and you find yourself filling up again. The best I have gotten is 140miles with reserve(praying I don't run out of gas!!). Buy a left over still get a warranty! Couldn't be happier with the bike. Torque monster, mine is stock and in first through second I can wheelie without the use of the clutch. The thing takes you by surprise!!

FOR A FIRST BIKE THOUGH I THINK I COULDN'T HAVE DONE BETTER. THIS BIKE LOOKS KICKIN, FEELS KICKIN. I WISH I COULD FIND MORE INFORMATION ON THE BIKE BUT UNFORTUNATLY MOST OF THE PRESS GOES TO THE YZF-R1 OR THE CBR-1000RR THATS COMING OUT FOR 2004 OR EVEN THE 600'S CLASS SPORT BIKES. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A SMOOTH RIDE WITH LOTS OF GETUP AND GO THIS 996 CC BULLET WILL MORE THAN SATISFY.

I have Two Brothers Racing oval cans on mine, my buddy has the rounds on his- both work great but the ovals sound better. I will never go back to an I-4 sportbike again. Lots of low end, and plenty of high end, if you really feel that you need it. By the way, it has seen 168 mph (indicated) and also a few high 11 second passes at the track. Hey, I weigh around 220, with no drag experience to boot, so I can't complain. I suggest trying one on for size.
