So I just purchased my first 1997 Honda Nighthawk 750cb, and let me tell you, these things are sleepers as far as engine reliability and power. The 75hp is as some us would say a great takeoff and catch up machine but, they like that 55mph to 65mph sweet spot (about 4200rpm) 5th gear just a sweet cruiser that handles with ease gets me about 50mpg and 1000 smiles to the gallon. Its not the crazy tiptoe 5 gear 120mph type, doing 0-60 in about 4.5s it has pep but its that middle line between over and under powered a mutual relationship ever biker considers for when looking into a new ride. even for lighter riders, At 6'3" 170lbs myself i can one hand this off the ground if needed, I grunt but it is doable at approx 500lbs and still A newer rider, i have no fears of trying to hold onto it at stops. The ride height is perfect for my chicken/toothpick legs, yet my wife 5'5" athletic build has to tip toe and side crotch the saddle a little to get her feet down. With a size 12 steel toe i recommend trying to move your shift peg position up for your foot noticed the boot sits low like real low touches before the pegs when you bank and lean because of the angle your toe is at. For what it means to you it truly is one of the greats as far as reliability honda hit the nail with this engine theres a reason they haven't changed in so many years of production you will notice basic maintaining more than wrenching (p.s take the carb in its do-able but takes alot of time and patience, like alot of patience 😉) hands down one of the best cruising commuter bikes I've been on been riding 43 miles one way to work with it every chance I get and wouldn't trade it or sell it I will hold onto this gem for future generations because I am certain it will still be running the same by that point in its life.... hope this helps!!!!!

Bought this bike because I liked the look of it, mine is Pearl Ivory Cream and Black, named her Pearl, lots of tasteful aftermarket studded accessories, driving lights, saddle bags, etc. Lots of torque, almost as much as my 93 V65 Magna, which is saying something, factory exhaust does not need replacing, excellent exhaust note, turns easily in the 16', very nimble, vibrates a little due to the single crank pin but that's what makes it even greater. Can't believe these bikes go for so cheap. They're a hidden gem. 81,000kms on mine. Replaced all fluids voluntarily, oil and filter of course every year, brakes and tires recently and I'm good for a good while yet. Love the bike. It's on bikez.com it's way in in the pics but if you look you'll see the front of a tractor to the right in my garage. Don't hesitate, get one. Really fun to ride.

Should have never sold the other 2...first one I got with too little riding experience though :) Probably the best bike of all time. Smooth as glass...ooozes quality everywhere from the insane power to incredible brakes, shifter, chassis. Totally reliable. A shame can no longer buy them new. Had a Hayabusa...felt like cheap vibrator compared to the Blackbird.

I have owned two 97 600vlx's in the past several years. The first I bought new. It withstood daily HARD riding, rain or shine, for a total of 60,000 miles in just over two years. I was not easy on this thing at all. I rode it from Phoenix to New Orleans in under 50 hours and wrecked it on the way home. It was fixed and ridden some more before general problems became too expensive. Example: Rear monoshock blew out; no rebuild kit, expensive new. Reliability is awesome, especially if you ride easy. Overhaul is expensive. I love the dressed-down Shadows, only I wish the VLX had a longer and more powerful version to suit me (not the Spirits or Ace editions, they aren't as good as VLX).

VFR handle bars make it more comfortable for the long hauls.
