I bought this brand new in 2012 with in six months noticed an oil smell there was a hole in the block . They replaced the block the next year battery would not charge had to replace the rectifier . Then again the next year just frustrating I didn't ride it for a while 2 years later not charging again noticed oil on the top of the rectifier (can't sell a broken bike ) the person who repaired the bike ( the block replacement) pinched the wire from the stator in the block now oil travels along the line into the rectifier shorting it out the connections rotted out.ive had the bike 9 years only have 6000 kms on it most the first year (the dealer I bought it from went out of business) love the looks rides real nice just a lemon and getting expensive

I have ridden and raced motorcycles since I was 17 years old and have owned three street bikes. Yamaha FJR 1300, Suzuki M109R2, and my Current motorcycle the Triumph Thunderbird Commander. Each bike had qualities that I like. But for an overall bike, the Triumph Thunderbird commander is a head above the rest. The quality and finish of the motorcycle is outstanding. The paint has real painted pinstriping done by hand. Oh the belt drive is very quiet and I don’t have to do any maintenance like shaft drive or a chain. The Commander has a 1700cc motor which has all the power and torque that you will ever need. It’s by far is the most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden, and I’ve ridden a lot of bikes including several different Harley Davidsons. It is a shame that more people do not look Triumphs they are is fantastic motorcycle. The only problem that I’ve ever had with the motorcycle is a dead battery. The only complaint that I have, is the sound level of the horn. I took it off and put on a aftermarket horn. Anyone considering getting a Motorcycle should go check out Triumph’s line. If you’re looking for a great cruiser, this is the one to get! You won’t be disappointed. I am constantly getting compliments on how beautiful the motorcycle is. Ride safe and have fun.

I put 58K on it but at parking lot speeds and maneuvering around the garage, I didn't feel secure. I tried the BMW 800 GS and they're nice bikes, but the engine seemed to vibrate a lot and didn't have much punch on top. Then I tried the Tiger 800 XC. Wow. What a difference! Power galore. Good low end torque and a nice top end rush. It handles like a much lighter bike and I feel much more in control. I had an issue with the left side case leaking oil. I took it to the dealer and he fixed it while I waited - faulty gasket.

I've had my 2002 V-Strom 1000 since they first came out. It's still a good bike and I thought it was pretty nifty until I spent an backroad afternoon on an XC800. How can an 800 be better than a 1000? Let me tell you the ways. My V-Strom is gutless until 4000 rpm., then it runs strong. The Triumph pulls smoothly at any speed right from idle. The Triumph also has a responsive eagerness that even a well-broken-in, well-tuned stock 1000 Strom lacks. The 1000 is decently smooth for a 1000 twin. The Triumph is dead smooth period. The 1000 Strom handles decently. It's in its element on backroad sweepers and a real pleasure but it is not quite as happy in the tight stuff. It's still good; we're not talking about some pig cruiser here, but the Triumph has an agility, direct steering and a wonderful fluid tip in to the corners that the V-Strom lacks. The Triumph feels like what it is; a whole generation newer and better. An uncorked dyno-tuned 1000 doesn't run as well as a stock Triumph XC800 - not even close. It's good vs. fanbloodytastic.

I can't comment on reliability because it's so new but after months and months of research, for the price it was the best out there. It has a great look and it's not just another same as the next Harley. No offense but out of a hundred bikes, one or two are Triumphs. I prefer quality over quantity - great bike!!

If you take out any full blown superbike on the road, you will never be able to use all that power unless you go to a track. The ABS on the bike works very well, power is smooth and the throttle control suits street riding very well. I commute daily with the bike, do pretty sporty riding on the weekends and I have no complaints. Make sure the bike was properly PDI'd.
