After years of riding Japanese sports-tourers, I felt like a change and bought a Sportster 1200. Very enjoyable, but instantly had me wishing I had held out for a Big Twin. After much research, I decided that a Softail Night Train was the way to go. I am not ashamed to admit that the looks of the thing had much to do with the choice. I also wanted the simplicity, sound and character 1340 EVO engine, and like to do my own maintenance. For three years now, I have owned a 1999 'bike, and I could not be happier. Like all relationships, everything is not perfect. The 'bike is pretty slow, the brakes are adequate and the HD suspension (progressive shocks and fork springs are on my Christmas list) is just about acceptable, BUT.... After 21 years, the 'bike is showing few signs of age, a testament to the impressive original build quality. The feel of this bike, the way it feeds back to you on any ride, and the easy beat of the low tech EVO engine is a triumph of simplicity over technology. The riding position reminds you that you are there for the pleasure of the experience, and along with those incredible looks, well, I cannot imagine changing the bike anytime soon. If you want a motorcycle with an almost "vintage", visceral appeal that has you glancing back over your shoulder each time you have to walk away from it, then this is the sort of thing you need in your life. Newer Harleys are faster, smoother and far more complex, but for this very satisfied owner, less is definitely more. Be safe out there.

I have had my new Night Train just over a week and have had no issues. I am happier than I would have guessed. I was really nervous about making the move away from a foreign bike because I ride around 18K miles per year. I really liked the look of the Night Train and could not find a close second when it came time to buy a new bike. I do all of my service work at home so I am hoping to find comparible operation expenses with this cycle.

I have owned many bikes in the past with 25 years of dirt bike experience and 14 years on the road. This bike will certainly get the looks, but thats the main reason you either bought one or are looking at it now. Start looking early because they are a little hard to find. Deffinately go Stage 1 and pipes, and stage 2 if you can swing it. I have over 9000 miles on this in less than a year and have loved every mile. Having ridden "dead head" from Phoenix to Salt Lake (700mi) and the longest ride to date, Salt Lake to Spokane in one day (832mi) I feel iI know this bike well. First, after 300mi your butt will go numb so you might want to upgrade the seat or get a gelpad. Overall it's a great bike though. Deffinately a true cruiser.

Out of all of the bikes H-D makes, this one definitely takes the minimalistic approach on overall looks and lines. Before Choppers became the perversions that they are today, it was all about taking a motorcycle and making it unique to the bare minimum. This bike fulfills that image. Well, this bikes has the lines, an attitude, and a unqiue feel from all of the other H-D bikes. A low rise (seat height) of 25.2 inches, a decent rake, drag bars, and sleek, long profile makes this a monster on just about any type of riding environment. Strong curves, open roadway, etc. You take it there, it will eat it up. Bottom line, it's more of an around the county and surrounding towns kind of bike. If you're going to go the distance, medium height apes might do you some good. It has a killer, low maintenance sleek look. It won't disappoint, I unofficially guarantee it!

Great ride....Rode Harleys years ago with no comparision. Quality and dependability excellent. Seat is a brick covered with leather and front tire could be an inch or two wider, and the bars could pullback about 2-3 inches. Those are the only changes that need to be made. I love the Jadeglow green and the blacked out engine. Ran 10,000 miles last year and running strong. Using Amsoil in everything, that makes it sing. Very nice ride for a middle aged crazy with limited social skills. Enjoy.....Ride Safe.
