Personally, I'd repaint it and ditch the monkey bars. A straight bar would serve the bike well and with only 7k original miles, it's a deal. Ride it like you stole it or go easy and cruise. Tons of fun.

Taken it on dirt tracks and up rugged mountains. It’s a great bike if you set it up right. Get a comfy seat, longer shocks and some saddlebags. If you’ve got little soft hands and a delicate bottom then well this bike is not for you. The 883 is a way better bike than the 1200 it’s better on fuel and cruises real nice at around 110kmph. Never had any issues. Change the fluids, and replace the battery every 5 years. The sportster is a great bike.

I have had no issues with mine., other that brakes and a brake line leak. It has been very dependable. My main dislike is the seat leaves something to be desired. We have been riding since 1976, started on a Kawaski 440 LTD. Way to small for two people. Went to a 2002 Springer and moved to the Ultra. Weight takes some time to adjust to, smooth on the road, never bogs down on a hill. Will chug long all day long.

This motorcycle is such a beauty. I ordered it as soon as it came on the market, waited for it, and never felt anything but excited about this bike. It's incredibly comfortable, and you can ride long days on the road without feeling fatigued when you get home. What I enjoyed most was customizing the few items I felt it needed (pipes, handlebars, grips, pegs, foot controls, mirrors. Plus, the fuel valve, gas gauge, and cap). It was a lot of fun shopping online, in the Harley store, and at different bike shops picking out all the perfect pieces to add. It came together beautifully. It shines, and the sound of the pipes is the most incredible in the world. It draws a lot of attention, and I love meeting new people. Sharing stories and making new friends while cruising around is almost as fun as riding. The only thing I didn't like was the solid back wheel, but I like the back tire's size a lot! This bike handles curves beautifully and accelerates up hills quickly. It's so much fun to ride! I recommend this motorcycle for its power and comfort and because it's unique from other Harley's. Everyone always has similar-looking Harley's, but the Deuce is special.

Happy Father’s Day. He’d bought it new for $19995 in 2000 and ridden it just 2800 miles. He kept it garaged (an air conditioned garage). He told me to pick up a battery in the way. He hadn’t started it in a while because the battery was dead (apparently they don’t last 22 years). We dropped in the new battery and by the third crank that baby started right up. I dropped it off at an independent Harley / Chopper shop for a once over, change the 22 year old oil/tranny/primary fluids, and put on new tires. It’s like the bike had been in stasis for two decades. Runs like new.

I've had this bike a few years now and I truly love her, she is a great all around bike. You can run to the store to pick up something for dinner, use her as a computer, cruise her to bike night, or just take off for a few days and go ghost. She's like the Swiss Army Knife of motorcycles. And you'll hear "get a real bike" usually from a bagger bro. But let's be honest. How many motorcycle models can claim the honor of being in constant production sense 1957. That says a lot about the loyalty to the Sportster line. I'm not a stone Harley owner, I also own a 73 Honda chopper. So I don't bleed black and orange, but for what I want her to do (witch is pretty much everything) she does it willingly. So don't let the name Sportster discourage you, will be pleasantly surprised.

I purchased my bike two years ago. It was sitting in a garage for four years and had never been started. It still had the original battery. After putting the battery on a charger, the bike started and ran perfectly. I then took the bike on a test drive and fell in love. The bike has had no problems. It rides, looks and sounds great. Vibration is high on the highway, but other than that I have no complaints. This is the perfect bike for cruising around town and going on short trips. It is very dependable and I recommend it as a great starter bike.

I came across this review thread and couldn't resist adding to it. I've had my Harley Wide Glide since new. I bought it at the thirty year mark of my riding experience and have found nothing better that I wanted to replace it with! Now, seven years later, I'm still in lust with this bike. I can't really say why but I've never felt safer on a motorcycle (this being my 13th warrior). Perhaps it is the strong, smooth engine that responds EXACTLY to my input. Maybe it is the settled chassis on a long wheelbase railing through the corners. It's just a sweet machine that feels so right. This is a hard pulling, cool running, stone reliable Wide Glide. After 37 years behind bars (handle bars that is) I've never experienced it's equal!
