Well I have to say that the 2009 TMax is honestly the best looking and most fun to drive scooter out there. I have owned other scooters as well. Well I have to say that the 2009 TMax is honestly the best looking and most fun to drive scooter out there. I have owned other scooters as well. The 500cc engine has plenty of smooth power and makes it a breeze in traffic for passing or keeping up with the flow of traffic. The TMax has a very nice ride overall. The suspension is very tight and cruises with no vibration or noise. I would highly recommend this scooter to anyone in the market for a fun, easy-to-ride, gas-and-go scooter.

This scooter is really a certified c-rocket in disguise. This scooter is really a certified c-rocket in disguise. It has speed, handling and maneuverability on par with or better than any street bike out there; but you don't feel like you have had a trip to the gym after you ride. You can relax on this machine and really enjoy the ride and comfort or you can leave cycles in the dust at intersections, the way I occasionally feel compelled to do.

A real show stopper, conversation invoker and ego booster (yeah, even old guys have egos). On the road it is stable, quiet, comfortable, and really quick with very respectable mileage. It is probably the only scooter that can keep me from buying a motorcycle and that alone will preserve my marriage. Yamaha really got this one right.

I have been riding for about 30 years and have owned four motorcycles. I just traded my 2001 Triumph Trophy 1200 for a new 2009 Yamaha TMAX. Since I only have about 40 miles on the odometer, I am just giving my initial impressions for now. There will be more to follow in a future post. Since the owner's manual recommends not exceeding 4000 rpm until the scooter has 600 miles on the odometer, I have not had the scooter over 53 miles per hour. I test rode a Silverwing and a Majesty scooter before choosing the TMAX. My criterion for selecting this scooter was as follows:
* Good commuter to/from work
* Good fuel mileage
* Good wind protection for highway touring
* Enough power to keep up with cars and accelerate to pass
* Good for two up riding (rider and passenger)
* High quality materials and construction
* Handles and brakes like a sport bike or at least a sporty motorcycle
* Low engine vibration and noise
* Storage under the seat and the option to add a trunk I believe I have found the right scooter for me in the TMAX. The only areas that Yamaha should consider improving (so far) are the suspension and lack of a lockable glove box. The suspension is somewhat firm, so I tend to avoid bumps in the road. I assume that the suspension is designed for sporty riding, but it would be nice if it was adjustable. Neither glove box has a lock. In addition to the scooter matching my requirements, I can mention these positive points:
* Good throttle response. The scooter takes off without hesitation.
* Comfortable riding ergonomics, although the seat is a little high. I cannot put my feet flat on the ground at a stop.
* Very smooth engine. Mirrors are clear on the highway.
* Very light and flickable in turns.
* Brakes are very strong and only require a light touch to stop the scooter. that's it for now. I highly recommend this scooter.
