I have owned this motorcycle since it was on the showroom floor. After a lot of research on dual sport bikes - talking to many owners of different brands (BMW, KTM, Suzuki, etc) I was able to confidently purchase this bike as my one bike to do everything - backroads, touring, commuting and not be left wanting. Very little required maintenance, oil changes and tire changes - provided a bike that was always ready to go. The only quibble is that it was built before LED's were standard, requiring some aftermarket additions. I wouldn't hesitate to get on this bike to go anywhere on the continent.

I bought this leftover 2020 model just 30 Days ago. I have logged in just over 1200 miles. I am getting approximately 41 miles to the gallon. I rode 7 hours in one day and I was very comfortable the entire trip. There is not enough power for me for riding two-up. It is perfect for a solo rider with luggage. I am 6 foot tall and 270 Pounds. The stock windshield is okay but I would prefer a taller windshield. My only complaint is a the windshield is awkward to raise or lower. Handling is amazing. Wind protection from the fairing is good. Minimal air blows on my knees. Headlights are bright. Brakes work well. Sport Mode is jerky but fun. Touring Mode is tamed and my choice for cruising. Overall ergonomics is excellent for my size and built. Cruise control works as expected. Heated Handgrips are the best. The kickstand is not confidence inspiring but they work. Something just feels odd or unstable when mounting or unmounting the bike. Opposed to saying this the best bike I've ever own, I will say it is my favorite bike to date out of owning 11 bikes in my lifetime. I test rode a 2021 Honda Goldwing DCT in which was my ultimate experience on a motorcycle. I chose the ST for it's versatility, reliability, touring range, and price. My purpose is mostly for long distance travel on road.

The dirt is not this bikes strong point too heavy and under sprung for serious off road. Fire roads are fun but definitely have to be ready for the unexpected. Definitely fun in the dirt but not a dirt bike. Long rides are easy. No pain or problems with a 5 or 6 hundred mile day. For the cost and reliability these bikes are a great deal.

Bought it in 2014, quality is Yamaha, never had any issue with the bike. Only downside is it is not very comfortable for a passenger (2 up) that is why I traded it and got a Goldwing. Now I am trying to reverse that decision. Even on the highway, I prefer the Tenere over the king of touring Goldwing. Plus it is great on gravel and dirt roads. I would not take it where I would take a dirt bike, but there are some people who would. The bike is heavy and a little front heavy. But on the highway and through the twisty roads, it is great.
