I haven't ridden a bike for 23 years. But after seeing the Hammer commercial, I began researching Victory and then visited my local dealer. My wife who had no clue until we walked in the dealership turned to me and said, "I hope you brought the check book!" The great thing is, it drives, handles and cruises just as good as it looks. I drive it everyday possible just short of rain.

I traded in my 07 Hammer S. so that I could get a bike with storage capacity. My list included Harley's Road Glide Ultra, Honda's Goldwing and the Victory Vision. After riding all three, I stayed with Victory. The handling and power are better than Harley, the reliablility is equal to the Wing and the styling is like no other bike on the road. The only complaint I have about Victory is the incessant whine of the primary and gearbox. It isn't noticeable at highway speed, but cruising through town it really is annoying. That being said, I love the way it handles. It cruises the mountains of West Virginia like a sport tourer, it never fails to start in the morning and never fails to start a conversation at every stop.

I bought an '08 a little over a year ago. I wanted the '08 because I wanted the blacked-out wheels, and there were major changes to the '09 other than cosmetic. After a few years of drooling and saving, I pulled the trigger and bought one. I have had this dream-bike for just over a year and have been incredibly happy with it. Performance-wise, it handles so well and is perfectly balanced. It has plenty of power and torque. Going 70 miles an hour feels no different than 45 or 50. One time in a touristy summer hot spot, I parked it alongside four Harley's. People looked at the bikes, but they stopped at mine. One guy took a picture; two others spent a few minutes walking around it. No disrespect to Harley's; my previous bike was an 883 Sporty. I know there is a certain "mystique" about Harley's. But in terms of value and looks, I'll choose Victory.

Well this being my first bike some may say that I'm being a little biased. Not true at all! Before I made this purchase, I did my research for almost a year. What I mean about research - I compared Victory against many different brands of the Harley-Davidson. I found that the same issues came to light - reliability, comfort and look were made better by Victory. What can I say - the engines are bullet proof and the look is just something else. You will know when a Victory is around because people will always be asking "what type of bike is that!"

The Hammer 8-ball is the Hammer with a 100 cubic inch engine, 5-speed transmission, blacked out, with a traditional round single headlight. The paint and styling are pretty tame for a Victory, but they are just right for me. The bike has plenty of torque and horsepower for any normal riding, and some not so normal riding. The seat actually is more comfortable after 2500 miles than when new. The big rear tire is no problem. The bike was designed for it, and the tire has a rounded profile that hugs the road as well as any bike I've ridden, and is generally more stable. This bike is very solid and free from niggling problems. My local Victory dealer is great, and Victory the company gives you credit for individual choice and intelligence, and doesn't try to turn you into a clone. Owning the Hammer 8-Ball is fantastic, and owning a Victory is too.

I traded in a Kingpin for the Vision 8-ball, in large measure because of the "ergos"--the low center of gravity and great handling. I liked the Kingpin but needed a little more bike. I also have a Goldwing and two other bikes, so I have lots to compare. The Vision is not a perfect bike--its engine is still no match for the Goldwing in terms of smooth power. The screen buzzes some after they put on the HID light, which should be fixable. But having just ridden the GW a good deal, overall I like it better because it handles so well and I am in, instead of high up on the bike. Storage is so-so but wind protection is superb and it is the best handling bike I have ever owned. I am much less likely to dump this bike, especially two up. In three weeks, I put 1,000 miles on it, which tells you what I think. Overall, a great value in a superb American motorcycle.
