Before buying this bike iv heard good and bad things. Most people that own one swear buy them, and most performance magazines slate them as being (slow steering, poor suspension and ugly) Since owning 1 for 2 months I've totally fallen in love with this beastie. It was a unmodified 2000 model in black. If you get a unmodified model get it sorted (derestricted and suspension set-up) you wont regret it. The bike is now twice as good, handles sweet. A16 race cans, unrestricted in gears, new maps, front dropped 13mm from top, rear spacers to raise height. Set-up suspension to performance magazine settings, and its awsome on corners now. Will soon change crapy front damper. I've owned vtr1000, zx9rc1, and this bike feels much better in all aspects. Dont believe what the magazines say and try one, you wont be dissapionted!!!

When I ride my 2001 TL-1000R there is this sort of simle that instantly comes to my face right when I hear that big twin fire up! It's like some sort of earth moving machine is inside my bike. I like to ride the back roads with my friends. I feel sorry for them because there on 600 F-4i's. I think the suzuuuk could suck those little bikes down the ram air ducts if it got pissed off, who knows? I heard that the suspension was too stiff and that the bike was too heavy, but I haven't noticed any of that on my bike. The TL carries it's weight really well. I can't wait to get some better tires on and see how it feels then. I did feel some high speed shimmy the other day in a bumpy 145mph sweeper on one of my favorite back roads. It made me think a bit, but I think all bikes do that to some extent. The TL comes stock with a steering dampner. I heard that it should be replaced after about 5000 mi. The stock dampner is nonadjustable. The only thing I don't like about the bike is the head light. I wish it was a new looking clear head light. I wouldn't change anything else. Everyone should have to try a big bad v-twin at some point in their life!

Just got my TL1000R and all I can say is wow. I've owned three other bikes including an R6 immeadiately before the TL1000R and none compare. This machine is heavy, but the weight only seems evident at a stop. As for power it decimates litre fours off the line. Yes they will take you when they get into the power band but not by much. Plus the TL1000R sounds a heck of a lot better doing it, aftermarket cans are not an accessory on this bike, they are the law. Not a good bike for a novice rider, not terribly forgiving. But don't get me wrong, it is a sweetheart in more expierenced hands. NO more downshifting for power, love this twin, power anywhere and everywhere. Anyway, enough blabbing, and remember; I own one, so my opinion is most deffinately biased. Buy the bike that you feel is right for you. Angus, B.C. Canada.

Numerous people all over the web have stated what an awesome machine this is, you have no idea what this machine is capable of until you actually ride it and come back with the worlds biggest smile on your face. I have a set of Hindle aftermarket pipes on mine and the sound is just unbelievable, I have to be careful about waking the neighbourhood. She is extremely powerful and pulls all the way to the 11000 redline. She is a handful to handle at slow speeds and she let's you know in a big way. This bike is not meant to be ridden slow, so I would not recommend it to the novice rider. The bike has so much torque that if you try and coast around a corner with insufficient revs, she will simply die and lock up the rear wheel, leaving a huge black streak on the pavement. The first time she did this I nearly had a heart attack and dropped it, you get used to it after a while. I recently took a 1000km trip in 13 hours and she purred along without a hassle. She gave me 5l/100km which was lighter than my friends ZX7 and my previous Interceptor, and we where not riding slowly either. A have heard a few people say that it's a poor mans Ducati, I don't think so, the TL can honestly hold it's own and give a lot of bikes a run for there money. Good value for money and will definitely put a smile on your face. Winter is going to be hard this year.

I've finally got my 2002 TL1000R and all i have to say is OMG. If you have never ridden a V-Twin before you really can't understand how different a ride this bike it. You'll have to get over the feeling that you have an over grown dirtbike engine underneith you. That comes really easily when you first hit over 6000. I've added a gel seat to mine but the stock seat was pretty comfortable. The weight of the bike is a little on the heavy side but it is more than happy to pull into a wheelie easily in 2nd. Unlike everyother bike this bike feels like its a part of you, like your "in" the bike apposed to feeling pearched on top of it; or hanging off the front nose like the R1 and GSXR 1000. The engine response thanks to the wonderful fuel injection is perfect with out being to abrupt like when FI was introduced in the older GSXRs. The weight is well displaced around the bike so Handling is excellent. It could use an updated instrument panal with a clock but thats really nothing. The stock dual exhast is a sweet touch but WOW does this bike blow everything out of the water when it comes to sound with aftermarket cans on her. My friends are all jealous to say the least and they all want theirs to sound like it. Lastly there is a bit of excessive vibration through the handles but a pair of gloves cuts it back to acceptable. Take one out for a test drive and get a feel for this bike, but you'll never know til you let it out of its cage on your own. I love my 2002 TL1000R Drew KLR TL

I wrote previously on the TLR, and after slight upgrades, I'm back. I added the K&N PowerCommander II to take away some of that "lag" in reference to the throttle response, so now the V-twin, although still strong and smooth, has much more umph out of 1st, and top end I feel the PC II as well. In addition, I added the Wiley slip-ons, which gave the v-twin the sound I was craving, not too crazy, but you hear me coming and going. My riding partners are awestruck by the sound, and me as well. For the ladies I added a black windshield, and aqua-colored neon lights. The last thing I've done to my pride and joy is to go up from the stock 190/50 rear tire to the Dunlap 200 series. Oh, I almost forgot, I also had the rear fender eliminator kit installed, which beautifully exposes that nice, fat, 200, and it rides like a show pony and whenever I feel the need, I can either put my chest on the tank and hold on, or, I can raise the front end on ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. In this small military town, definately an head turner. Oh, one more thing I added was the tricked out tailights, which slowly rotate counter-clockwise upon starting and whenever you hit the brakes, they pulsate and flash until you let up. In closing, my bike is truly on point now. Feel free to hit me at your earliest convenience. Ride safe and have a nice day. Plate reads: Slim-65
