Outside of tires and oil, there hasn't been much that this bike needs. I live in a place where the roads are curvy, and stop lights few. The bike has been dependable (make sure your battery terminal bolts are tight). 40 MPG is normal, with a best of 45MPH on I-5 heading to Portland, OR, or anywhere this bike can stretch its legs. I installed Progressive fork springs (way back) to help in the curves. My friends with more "canyon focused" rides are amazed at how well this bike moves through the curves. While it is not a "power house" type of ride, pulling up to three digits on the speedo is not hard. If you want performance above and beyond a freight train, look elsewhere. If you want an easy chair that handles better than Harleys that are half again the Suzuki's price, go no further. It is heavy, but doesn't feel like it. I'm about to hit 50K on the odometer, and my Suzi doesn't use oil. I just put the original spark plugs back in it because they still looked like new (like the replacements I took out after 30K on them). The only part of this bike that has been irritating is the various vibrations that come with a big V-twin. My VL-1500 has never been in the back of a truck - I ride it and love it. This bike is a good value, and the later ones are even better. It could stand a bigger fuel tank, at least 5 gallons. It isn't perfect, but I'd buy another one. After market manufacturers treat the VL like an ugly baby - if you want more love from the Chrome and glitz mongers, buy a HOG.

My last bike was a Yamaha 1100 maxima. It was fun, but this v-twin gives me much more of what I want. It's more stable at all speeds, smooth and throaty off the lot, hands down the best bike for the money.

This bike rides like a Cadi and will keep the heads turning. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago after doing extensive research on cruisers. Power is good considering mine is loaded with windshield, bags, etc. When you ride it, you don't want to go much faster than approx 70mph because you're just cruising. Just like any other bike that I've had, I want more power just because you get used to how your bike feels after riding it for a while. It doesn't need any more power, but I thought my ZRX1200 needed more after a few months and it was a rocket! It looks and feels like a big bore, but has the price and value that leaves money for more important things than toys. For a tall guy it has ample legroom. Insurance is really low while the fun stays high! It runs on 87 grade unleaded which makes the gas even cheaper. I'd recommend this bike for anyone looking for the most cruiser for the money.

It looks like a fat boy with 1/5th of the price. It's a great bike for the money but if you're doing some serious traveling (400-500 miles a day), you might want a bigger motor because the 800 cc doesn't cut it for 75-80 mph on Nebraska freeway, it gets really riled up. It just needs about 1200 cc if you're going to travel with it but it's great for around town.

I've had my 2000 Intruder 800 for 18 months and 2600 miles. I bought it used with 4,000 miles on it. I like the bike a lot. I had not ridden in almost 30 years before this bike. I recommend it highly as a first bike or for someone returning to riding. I get 44 mpg. It has plenty of power, but it reaches high revs quickly in all gears. It could use another gear on the highway. Takes a while to warm up and runs roughly at cold start. Once warmed up it runs great. Nice exhaust sound. The seat is low, and the bike is relatively light, so it is easy to maneuver in the parking lot. The ride is a little stiff with noticeable, but not aggravating, vibration. Overall, the ride is pretty comfortable. My wife hates the passenger seat. It's not a bike for 2 up riding. I'm torn right now between putting a windshield on the Intruder or selling it and buying a bigger cruiser. The big cruisers are a little more cushioned and comfortable. However, the Intruder runs as fast as or faster than most cruisers up to the 1100. In summary, you can't go wrong buying an Intruder. It gets approving looks and compliments everywhere I go. It's dependable, nice looking, rides nice, sounds great, sips gas and is easy to handle.

Every time I get out on my Volusia I get complemented on my soft tail. I bought it used and stole all the upgrades that the guy before me had installed. He sold it, too scared to ride after he spent all winter putting every piece of chrome that he could on it. Last weekend I rode with a 1200 Sportster and a custom chopper, yeah they could pull away on the straight but the handling on the Volusia kept me with them through the corners. I'm getting ready to jet and pipes and air filter to get a little more power but other than that, it's an amazing bike.
