This bike is a confidence builder. I had a Savage 650 before this one and always wondered what it would be like to handle a heavier cruiser. Let me tell you, this bike will handle any twisty a lot better than the little Savage. It has good fuel range and efficiency as well with two spark plugs per cylinder for better combustion and great low end torque.

My friend and I just took our 2007 & 2009 C-50's on an 1,191-mile ride around central, eastern, valley, & metro Oregon. During the ride I kept track of our miles between fill ups, & then I figured (with a calculator) our mpg. From the Salem area to Bend we were at 47 mpg, which was the lowest mpg. during the entire ride. Our next lowest mpg. was 51, which was from Redmond to Estacada. Everything in between was 56 mpg. all the way up to 73 mph. (which was from Burns to John Day.) Most of the time we were ranging in the mid to high 60's & lower 70's for mpg. I was also very impressed with the comfort of my 2009. We were riding nearly 10 hour days, and I never cramped up. During the 10 hours of riding we made several stops, although very brief (2 to 15 minutes), except for a 45 minute to 1 hour lunch. My tailbone started to hurt after about 9.5 hours. Furthermore this bike also had plenty of power to move me up the steepest mountain passes, even while fully loaded for a week's worth of camping. I've owned much larger bikes (Yamaha Roadliner 1900, Kawasaki Concours 1400, Kawasaki VN900 Vulcan, and I have ridden the Honda ST1300, and the Goldwing 1200) and I must say that this bike is more nimble, comfortable, and gets much better fuel economy. I have also found that in the type of riding that I normally do, I don't need a big bike, it's just overkill. As a side note, the insurance is also lower if you have less than 1000cc's. The only downfall that I have found with this bike thus far is that it is not a great freeway bike. It will run at speeds greater then 65 for long periods of time, but I really don't think that this bike was designed for that. This bike is the perfect bike for the city, county back roads and state highways. In addition, the speedometer is off by a percentage. I figure its off by 5 to 9 mph at speeds greater then 65 mph, in our favor. If you are looking for a great bike that is easy to handle, is out of the "Box" comfortable, looks good, and gets good mpg., and your ego dosen't get in the way, then this is the bike to own.

I bought it new. I have been averaging 4,000 miles/year riding in Maine on this bike. The handling is responsive and quick. The acceleration is okay, but, then again, this is an 800. The engine can run all day at 60-70 mph. on the highway without a whimper. At speeds below 25 mph., the engine is noisy and has an initially off-putting sound of little men and hammers but it seems to be normal as others report the same. This bike has had normal maintenance done. The cost has been reasonable. Most of my riding is done on two-lane roads at around 40-50 mph. The bike is a champ for 2-3 hour rides. The longest day trip was 300 miles each way and the bike was comfortable and safe. It is still stock. I am too cheap to buy any modifications for show. I like a dependable bike that is comfy one that I can spend my time riding rather than polishing it. This one has been a pleasure to own and has given good value for the price.

I have a 2010 C50T that I have put about 500 miles on now and what a ride. Overall, it's the nicest bike I have ever riden. I have owned many bikes over my 58 years including Harleys. This is by far the best ride I have ever owned - comfort, torque and just shear fun to ride. The only fall back I find is the overall engine noise is very high at cruising speed. Not sure if it's the valve train or bottom end, but the bike is smooth. It's the best buy for the buck.

When I decided to start riding again after a 15-year hiatus, I wanted a bike that would keep up with the "Big Boys" but classic enough for a man approaching his 50's. The C109RT is exactly that bike. It is the true classic cruiser, comfortable, powerful, a constant eye catcher. My wife rides with me and finds the bike very comfortable. I like the 5-gallon tank, wide profile and awesome braking system. I did find myself really pressing against that big rear tire at first, but that is no longer an issue.

I bought a new leftover 2008 S83 in late summer 2009 at a great price - last one in the store. I got it for under $6,000. I had done a lot of research before I bought it. I wanted a lean, lighter weight, bigger displacement V-twin cruiser for under $10K. I was aware of the criticisms of the bike - squeaky brakes, grabby clutch, floppy low speed handling, uncomfortable seat, cramped riding position. Like a lot of 1980's vintage bikes, the S83 has a few quirks, but I think they add to the bike's character. The clutch is a little grabby coming off a stop and the brakes do squeak from time to time - so what, you get used to it. I found the other complaints to be nonissues. I find the midmount footpegs and original seat to be very comfortable, and I think that the bike handles just fine. The S83 has nice low end torque and plenty of power for passing on the highway. I only gave the S83 a 4 of 5 in performance, but my last bike was a HD V-rod that really scooted. My fuel economy was a little low at first (35-40 mpg.), but it really started to improve after about 2K miles on the odometer. Now I get 45-49 on the highway and 40-43 in mixed city-highway riding. Other than the clutch being a little grabby, my only complaint is the lean tuning out of the factory (to meet EPA standards). The bike does take a while to warm up and it hesitates a little on the low end when you first hit the throttle. I'm planning on a carb rejet at 4-5K miles - from what I hear, that should make the low end acceleration a lot crisper. The gas tank is only 3.6 gallons, but refueling every 100-120 miles is not a problem for me. The look of the bike is subjective - I love the narrow 1980's chopperesque look of the bike, and I do get a lot of compliments on its looks. My bike has the gold paint job - very nice looking. All in all, I'm very happy with the bike and I would buy it again without any hestitation.

When I would ride with my buddies, I couldn't tell it was running it was so quiet. This bike has speed like a rocket. At over 100 mph., it is as smooth as it is at 30 mph. This bike is comfortable as can be. It still looks like it's brand spanking new. I meet new people and get into conversations with them and they always think it's just off the showroom. Then I tell them how long I've had it and how many miles are on it. If you can get your hands on one, do it, do it.
