Honda XR100R reviews

The (2000) XR100 by Honda is a good trail bike. I have had no problems with this bike. The suspension is great; the power is great, for a 100cc, four stroke. Although it is a different story at the track. I don't recommend taking this bike to the track, because as all four-stroke trail bikes, they don't like to be at high rpm's. It heats up quickly, and will bog down on you above 2,000 rpm's, which is not fun, because you may have to walk it back to the pit, from the other side of the track... For long distance trail riding it's a great bike, if you fit the right weight and height description. If you like high speeds, and you cannot afford another bike, than just buy a new sprocket. I recommend taking off 3, or 4 teeth on the rear sprocket. Leave the front sprocket the same. If you are looking into buying, go for it. Show less

This is an excellent bike. It's reliable, smooth, and it is a great buy. The XR 100 is also a great trail bike. This was my first bike and I loved it, it was perfect for a beginner. Show less

This is a great beginner bike because as most people would say it is small and very light so it is no problem for smaller people to learn to ride on and negotiate trails with. The reliability on this bike is amazing because as long as you maintain it properly it will never let you down and it starts up and runs easily in our cold New England weather thanks to its four-stroke engine. The performance is also greater than I expected out of a trail bike, aside from the slightly soft front suspension it can handle jumps fairly well as long as they are not too big (at 150lbs I can go about 4 feet high without bottoming out the shocks). The last great feature is the durability. I bought mine new in 2000 and have ridden it since on tough trails and off small jumps and all I have broken was the brush guard that was cheap and easy to replace. My dad is a professional mechanic so I must say that helped me a bit as far as maintenance. However, if you are about my size or larger/older (I'm 15) I would recommend a larger bike because now that I have matured my riding techniques I am looking to move on. Show less

The XR100 is a great bike for kids between the heights of 4'10 to 5'4. Good top speed of 57mph. It is also a great bike to race against quads (especially the TRX250). Run the bike a lot. This year I started up for the first time and the spark plug cracked. Good acceleration as well. Show less

The bike is awesome but one thing you do not what to do with this bike is go off jumps. After that you are going to have a lot of fun with this great bike. Show less

This is an awesome bike. It is fast, quick, and only weighs 165 lbs stock. It wheelies awesome and takes jumps good. It is a perfect beginner bike as well as a perfect pit bike. Does really well on the trails and doesn't get stuck easily. The only problem I've ever had with it was when I fouled the plug. It is 29.5 inches tall and has a 99 cc air-cooled four stroke single with a 5 speed manual clutch. It goes about 55 stock but mine goes about 65. Show less

I like this bike because it is a good beginner bike and that I can reach the ground. I think this is a good beginner bike because it isn't too big or too small and the fact that it is a four stroke. Four strokes are easier to keep up with maintenance, unlike two strokes. The bad thing about this bike is that the rear rim is a very weird shape, so the spokes tend to snap or break off, causing you to replace them frequently. Now that I have more experience, I want to trade it in for a bigger bike because I like challenges. Note: If you fall off this dirt bike, you won't get injured as much as people with bigger bikes. I am not a beginner rider, a novice rider would more describe it, but I have thoroughly enjoyed this bike. I am small, which helps, but I am not necessarily light (130lbs.) and I find this bike to carry me without difficulty. I trail ride mostly, with a lot of hill climbing, loose, rocky ground, tight turns, and some whoops. I was a little apprehensive about its suspension performance with me not being a light rider, but so far it seems to be fine. It has enough speed for me at this point, and probably will for a while with the type of riding I do-I rarely need 5th gear. To sum it up, I would recommend this bike to not only beginners, but small recreational riders of any age. This is my 3rd Honda, and as always, a really reliable, fun bike. Show less

I got a XR100 for Christmas and I rode it 8 hours a day for the couple of nice days we had. It was the first bike I ever had. The suspension is great and it has good speed. It will smoke any 4 strokes in its class. My friends have Suzuki's, Yamaha's, and Kawasaki's and will get smoked by the XR100. It is a great beginners bike. I fell numerous amounts of times and the bike just doesn't die, it is immortal. My dad also got a bike for Christmas, a CRF230. I can keep up with him on the trials so my opinion is ride red nothing else. My friends are constantly replacing stuff on their bikes. We all got bikes for Christmas and I am the only one that hasn't replaced a thing. The weird thing is I have fallen the most times because my friends have had bikes before they got their bikes so they had more experience. But by the end of the week you couldn't tell the difference between 3 years of riding and a week. This bike is a great value for the low price. Show less
