This is the overall best bike I've ridden. It handles the highway like a big touring bike but maneuvers easily like a small bike. You can't beat it for dependability. As with anything else, there are a few drawbacks: 1) The same complaint almost everyone seems to have is the loud bang in second gear. The service center says it's done on purpose to let you know where you are when shifting. 2) The seat will take some time to break in. My longest ride so far was 6 hours straight, my butt was sore but would be even if I was in a car that long. 3) The floorboards will hit the road on tight turns. I've been everywhere on the road from the shore to the mountains and I know this bike will take you anywhere you want to go with no problem.

Bought new, but back into dealer at just 500mi due to a coolant leak. Hope this isn't the sign of things to come. So far, I like it a lot, though was just able to have a couple of 200+ mile rides before the current problem. It doesn't feel like a heavy bike and I do enjoy it's handling and ride better than my old Virago 1100... noticeable amount of top-end there. The coolant leak kept me from giving better marks & has me looking out the window on a sunny day right now. Has a similar riding feel to a V-Star, to which was my second choice of cruiser.

I put 6400 miles on my VTX1300R this summer on a three week trip. I rode from NY to British Columbia and Alberta, down through Montana and Wyoming to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons Mountains. The bike reminds me of me in the morning. It likes time to warm up and is grumpy until it does. You have to pull that choke out and leave it out for a while until the engine gets real warm. It will then run like a top. I pulled a two hundred pound trailer with about 100 lbs of cloths, tents, food, beer and junk the whole time. It handled the trailer well and for the most part you did not even know that it was there. I would have like a bit more metal and a bit less plactic here and there...

In the 2.5 months I've owned this bike it had treated me well. With drives well over 200 miles at a time, I find the comfort fine. I drive almost daily as this is my main form of transportation and would not trade this in as it is a great ride and the weather is great here year around.

My wife rode with me for the first time and had a blast. She says it's very comfy but needs rear floorboards. The only problem so far is the tank emblems are coming off. BACK TO THE DEALER. Other then that , this bike is perfect. Keep the metal side up and the rubber side down.
