I traded in my previous 600. I wanted something lighter and faster. I also wanted ABS brakes. There is nothing disappointing about this bike. Everything about it is great. The brakes are strong yet forgiving. I consider myself a beginner rider and this bike rides great if I'm just putting around or when I'm on it! It seems to take on another life after about 8k RPM (that's when it really shines)! The riding position is comfortable at least for a sport bike.

I purchased my Silver Wing ABS 2 years ago and have racked up over 11,500 miles. My dealer had this bike sitting on his floor for quite some time and wanted to move it so he dropped the price. I sold two bikes, a 2002 Honda Reflex 250 and a 2004 Moto Guzzi Breva because the Silver Wing was all the bike I needed. I upgraded to the Silver Wing because in addition to the occasional commute, I wanted a comfortable bike that I could do long distance touring on without the hassle of fitting saddlebags and strapping luggage to the back seat. The Silver Wing accommodates me nicely with a huge underseat trunk as well as my 37 liter Givi topcase, tankbag and two useful gloveboxes. Last summer I did a 9 day, 2500 mile trip to Nevada, Utah, Arizona and back home and had no issues having enough necessities packed away. As for the bike itself, I can't think of anything I'd rather be riding. This bike has smooth, awesome power that can reach 3 digit speeds with stability. It handles great on mountain roads, twisties and long stretches of highway and is always in the right gear. Having to get over to the slow lane to let cars pass isn't necessary because this bike has the power to keep you out in front. The ABS linked brakes do a great job bringing you to a safe controlled stop. With the right tools, the bike is also fairly easy to do basic maintenance such as tire changes, changing brake pads and oil and filter changes. The first valve check isn't due for 16,000 miles. Engine performance has been reliable for 11,000+ miles with no issues. I have gone on large group rides with all different makes and models of bikes and have never felt like I didn't belong. People are amazed that this bike is actually a scooter. I'm sure Honda is in the process of developing a replacement for this baby Gold Wing as this bike has gone unchanged for almost 9 years. They don't need to change much however. This is one awesome motorcycle/scooter.

After correcting the little niggles with the bike (such as replacing the stock seat, adding electrical outlets), and putting a few more miles on the bike, I will tell you that this has been a thoroughly satisfying purchase. The motor has just been bulletproof; it still pulls as hard as the day I bought it. I've had it up to 125 and it is as solid as a rock. You can ride all day at 90 (based on GPS, not the optimistic speedo). It handles well... I feel that a more skilled rider than me could hang with most riders/bikes on most roads. I don't do badly and I'm flat-out old. It occasionally occurs to me to get a new bike, explore other makes/models/configurations, then I ask myself 'why?'

The wife also rides a 05 ST and loves it.

It might seem unfair to compare the ST to a luxury touring bike, but the ST is a touring bike too sport touring. First of all, the ST is an awesome bike. It is very agile and doesn't lack anything when it comes to power. It will go faster than the law, or my good sense, will allow. It doesn't have some of the creature comforts of a luxury tourer, but it is also considerably less expensive. A luxury tourer is the more comfortable of the two, but the ST is by far the most responsive. It is also slightly more economical to drive. I have averaged 40 MPG on the highway on my luxury tourer and 50 MPG on the ST. The ST is easier to service and maintain. The fairing is much easier to remove and the air filter is a lot easier to replace. Changing the oil is about the same. There aren't as many aftermarket accessories for the ST and the ones that are available are usually higher priced. I have had excellent service from the Honda dealers, both before and after the sale. I do a lot of my own maintenance and they have no problem with that. The owner's manual even clearly states the owner can do the maintenance and not affect the warranty. Other manufacturers don't allow that, and then charge exorbitant prices for their service. I have taken the ST on 3+ hour trips, ride it daily to work (70 miles round trip), and ride it just to relax. For the past two summers I have taken trips in excess of 7,000 miles. For the longer trips I will take my Wing. I wouldn't hesitate to take the ST on long trips if it were the only bike I had, but since I have the Wing I will use that instead. For trips shorter than 2,500 miles I will probably take the ST. The bottom line is the ST is an absolutely terrific bike. The Audiovox Cruise Control I added is really a must-have for trips. I replaced the stock seat with a Sergeant seat. That was a mistake. It looks a little nicer, but is no more comfortable. The handlebar riser from Motorcycle Larry has an ideal point to mount the Zumo 550.

I don't feel that I'm compromising with it as either a sport bike or a Tourer. Performance and reliability are exceptional, range is over 300 miles and it's easily the most comfortable I've ever ridden. I've already gone over 6000 miles and my tires still have plenty of tread on them.
The bike you want if you can only own one.

I bought an ST-1300 new and absolutely love it. If you intend to spend time on a bike, this is the one! The comfort, agility and handling of a sport bike with the comforts of a touring rig. I've commuted on this bike and trekked through the Midwest and loved every minute. On the ST-1300 you won't beat your back up sitting on your tailbone as you would on a cruiser. You won't wear out leaning on your hands like a sport bike. It has better acceleration, better braking and is more comfortable than anything else on the road. Thinking of paying more for a different brand? you're wasting your money. It has adjustable suspension, adjustable headlamps (up, down, 2 highs, 2 lows), adjustable windscreen and a 7 gal tank for long range rides. Try it and you'll be sold too...

Most of us in our ever growing family of ST-owners call this bike Honda's best kept secret. I mean... How can a bike this dependable, this durable, this comfortable, this fast and maneuverable, and this capable of extreme touring (multiple Iron Butt entries) not be the best selling bike in America??? that's OK 'cuz I love it when I get approached at fuel stops and asked, "What is that?Originally I simply wanted a commuter bike for a 90 mile daily round trip, with storage and wind protection.... and ended up with a rekindled passion for riding. There are not enough stars to rate this bike! And to fellow shorter riders (5'6 with 28 inch inseam), I can flat foot one side and almost the other with the seat in the lowest position. Caution... this bike will cause extreme satisfaction!
