This was the first brand new bike I bought. What I wanted was a good single-cylinder bike akin to the British 250's that I remember as a lad. This bike was everything I wanted: reliable, smooth, nippy and with a good spec and finish. The engine has a counter rotating balance weight, which irons out the vibrations. There is an automatic valve decompressor, which makes starting nice and easy, although later models did have electric start. The bike is capable of a good turn of speed, and is very stable in tight cornering. Reliability is the bye word, and the only regular maintenance is chain tensioning. The brakes excel in their ability to bring you to a halt, and the alloy rims are light and easy to clean. Overall, the best Japanese bike I have ever owned, and regret selling.

The 1979 CR250 is a power bomb! I can stand my bike straight up in fifth gear! The power is there whenever you want it. The suspension travel is full...but the rear kicks when going off of big jumps. With loads of power and good, small bump suspension the 79 CR 250 makes an excellent trail... read more

The first year for the twin spar frame is Honda's best effort towards a perfect 250 motorcross bike. I have owned a fleet of CR 250s ranging from 1988 to 1997, as well as riding a 2000 model, and the 97 is the best all around. It has the engine, the reliability, and the suspension to be at the front of the pack today. Keep the air filter clean, chassis lubed, and the oil changed, and it will last forever. Worth wile modification FMF FATTY PIPE/SILENCER makes power delivery super-smooth

IF YOU FIND A CLEAN ONE, BUY IT AND USE HONDA OILS. I HAVE NEVER SUFFERED A DNF OR MECHANICAL BREAK-DOWN USING HONDA OILS AT FACTORY RECCOMMENDED RATIOS.
