I just got mine yesterday and have less than 50 miles on it. I am relatively new and inexperienced rider. I was approached by a person at a business meeting I was at, he told me that I should get a steering damper and that I should get it now. He said that his friends have had severe wheel wobble problems and that one of his friends really grabbed the throttle and did a wheelie and when he came down his front end wobbled from extreme left to extreme right. He proceeded to tell me how satisfied he was with his Kaw 9r so I knew he had an obvious bias. Has anyone experienced such wheel wobble. So far I really love the looks, handling and awesome acceleration of this rocket. I am told that I can't take it over 4000 RPM till I have 200 miles on it. I cant wait. But any safety issue is obviously of great concern. Please reply if you have any information for me.

I owned this bike for about 6 months, and have also ridden R1's and a GSXR-750 (which gives me a guess what the 1000 would be like). The magazines seem to rank these liter bikes by who has the most power. If that is all you care about, you already know the ranking: 1.GSXR1000 2.R1 3.CBR929RR. But listen: they all have loads of power and are rather close to each other in power, so for me, the deciding factor comes down to some other things. Here are my considerations to give to someone deciding which liter class bike to get: 1.Visibility. CBR929RR wins because it has by far the brightest headlamp with triple bulbs. 4 out of 5 motorcycle accidents are caused by the car driver, not the motorcycle! I am proof of this as an idiot once hit me and broke my back in 3 places. If I had been on the 929, it wouldn't have happened, as she would have seen the 929RR's super-brights announcing my approach. 2.Handling. CBR929RR wins again. The forks feel like extensions of your arms. It's unreal. Balance is superb. GSXR is very close. The R1 is nowhere near the CBR in handling. 3.Street use. CBR929RR wins. Best of the liter bikes for carving up traffic aggressively. 4.Throttle use and power usability. Being honest, you will find the R1 and GSXR better here. The GSXR is divinely smooth in this respect. On the CBR, the fuel injection is a bit...snappy, but it's not too bad, you will learn to get used to it. 5.Brakes. Good on all of them, but I especially love the brakes on the 929 for the confidence they give you in ultra-quick, urgent stopping. (Like when I had to pull it down from 160mph once, when a truck turned into my lane. The brakes are like your guardian angel on this bike.) 5.Looks. that's up to your personal taste. I think the R1 looks better, BUT everyone has one, so... less original. As for GSXR and CBR, in my book they both have about the same good looks. 6.Travel. The 929 is a better bike for long trips than all other liter bikes, except for the ZX-9R.

It is very nimble, flick this thing into a turn get on the gas a bit out of the turn and you're flat out gone. The only complaint I have so far is that the rear fender is huge behind the back tire, looks like it's time for me to cut it off.

I have really enjoyed my 929. After trading my xx I was a little reluctant about the bike. I have found it to be a great back road bike and not to bad for long trips. Do yourself a favor and put a Corbin seat on the bike, it made it a whole lot more comfortable and the annoying slams into the tank during hard braking were eliminated. The bikes fit and finish is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone who wants something fast and great at handling the curves. The fuel injection did take a about a day to get used to as far as smooth transitions between speeds.

The bike's performance is great but have yet to compare it too the "venerable" GSXR on the strip. The fuel injection great, responsive everywhere sans slight burping at around 3 grand while putzing around. I have put about 2000 miles on in the four weeks I've owned it and must say its getting more comfortable on long trips (must be my neck muscles adjusting after switching from an ACE tourer). My biggest gripe is everyone asking me why I didn't buy an R1 or Gixxer (?)- and the storage space I gave up going to a "rocket". Just wish there was a road where I could really open 'er up and see what she's got!

The CBR929rr is the only one I chose, when I upgrade my ride. Ever since I got the bike, I have less time to do everything else but to ride it. I was really happy with the power, the looks, and everything ..... Well when America Honda send me the Clutch Basket recall twice!! that's when My Nightmare began! I fall in love with my baby (CBR929RR Who wouldn't ???) when I bought it, it got one mile on it , no scratch it was beautiful. I thought about forget the recall cause I don't want anybody touching my baby and put any scratch on it. I don't do anything crazy on my baby! Like the other 25 years olds rider. Anyway one day I can't stand to worry about the clutch basket (It's like a time bomb you know) So, I did what I can't never forgive myself which I took my bike down to Nichols Honda in Wichita Kansas (I want everybody to know what you getting yourself into). So I told them be careful with my baby and they were all nice and said they will take good care of it! Ok! So I went to pick up my bike, they told me they just had a accident with my bike , I was shocked ! And they told me is my responsible of that ?? How could they wrecked my bike and saying all that?? I can't never understand?

This is my 4th sportbike over the last 20 years of riding. I've had Ninjas mostly, so this is my first Honda. It is true the new Suzuki Gixxer, and Yamaha R1 have a bit of an edge on track performance, however the 929 has the best all around drivability of the three bikes, most comfortable, and the best fit and finish. Still, I'm probably splitting hairs here, as you cannot go wrong buying any of these three fine bikes. I've had my 929 for 3 months, and have logged 3,300 miles with NO problems, no leaks, no starting issues, nothing .... typical Honda quality you'd expect. The power is awesome, and the midrange is very good. One thing I will says is that I wish this bike had the fuel-injection refinement and polish of its younger brother, the CBR F4i. Also wish it had the smoothness and refinement of the F4i's gearbox too, still, the 929's FI and gearbox is above average...again just splitting hairs. This is the best all around bike I've ever seen, and the most fun too, especially if you want one bike to do it all (sportbike, touring bike, and get to work/around town bike).

The bike is awesome, but a few items keep it from getting a five star rating. Firstly, the fuel injection "jetting" is rather abrupt at around 3000 rpm. Secondly, the ABS body work is too stiff and thin. I've had two fenders crack at the mounting points. I'm not the only one with this problem...

I'm not the only one with this problem and Honda has been replacing them under warranty, but I'm getting tired of going to the dealership.

I just got this bike 3 weeks ago after a one-year fiasco with a Triumph Sprint ST. See my review. That bike was so bad that the dealer gave me a new 2000 929 as a replacement at no charge. I have 800kms on it and although it is not fully broken in yet I have a good idea of how this bike works. This is a race bike that has lots of power, handles likes it is on rails, brakes well and is forgiving. Yet the seating position is just about as comfortable as my ST. On the second tank of fuel I averaged 60mpg on a highway run (CDN gallons). The bike was perfect when delivered and continues. Just ride, check the fluids and oil the chain. You can drive this bike on the track, highway or the city; it does all these tasks well. Not many race bikes do all that. Sure the pegs drag earlier than an R1 but from Toronto to Montreal I will have a lot more fun because I will be comfortable. My only comments are, get a Two Brothers pipe as the stock pipe does not let the engine sound like it should and a Corbin seat for long distance cruising is a must. Some guys have put on a steering damper but unless you plan to really push this bike hard it is not required. Reliability is something you take for granted until you do not have it. I have put more miles on this bike in three weeks than I did on my Triumph in a year. Honda is the only bike I would buy in the future.

Question: Is the 2001 CBR929RR easy to ride? Answer: Yes, I just bought a 2001 CBR929RR less then a week ago, and this is the most "User Friendly" Big Bore bike to date. My background goes like this This is my first bike (Yes, it's true), but I've been riding friend's motorcycles (250cc - 900cc Cruisers & a CBR600 F3) for the past few years. So, when I bought my 929, that was my first time on a bike of that magnitude (Wow!). Back to that BIG day, nearly one week ago I was so intimidated by the 929 until it started rolling. I put it in 1st gear, and when I reached the end of the parking lot, I was 80% synchronization with its character. After my first 5 miles, I was at 95%. This bike is very predictable, light, smooth and easy to ride. If you want it to go slow, it can do that (well). If you want it to go fast, it can do that (very well). If you want it to Tour around town, it can do that too (very well). I couldn't have designed a better FIRST bike for this summer. I'm a believer!!! Thanks Honda!
