This is my 3rd Harley-Davidson, and my favorite so far. I had a Softail Standard and a Street Glide before this bike. The Street Glide just wasn't my style bike, but when I traded it in, the Softail Standard had been dropped from the line, and I liked the appearance of the Fat Bob.
After riding the Fat Bob for nearly 6000 miles, I've come to like a lot more than just the appearance of the bike. The handling is terrific, it rides well on long trips, and after the engine was broken in, the gas mileage is great! But, of course, if you buy a Harley for gas mileage, you're just missing the whole point. For me it's just an added bonus.
The only slight downside of this bike for me is the handlebars. They don't put me in the best position for long rides (300-400 miles per day) that we occasionally go on (1-2 times per year), but they're fine on the shorter (100-200+ miles) weekend rides. Maybe I'll change the 'bars sometime.
Most of the low RPM vibrations seemed to go away around the 2500 mile mark for me. Once the bike got to that point, I can drop it into 6th gear at any speed from 50 mph on up.
Overall this bike is a very satisfying and fun ride.
