The Ducati S2R 1000 is a marvel.. perfect engineering!! Quite simply....the S2R 1000 is well balanced, very comfortable and very aggressive. Handling is predictable and precise. The best part is the engine and the throttle response is just "Spectacular" **Think 20 yr old Scotch and your Best cigar ever** The exhaust is intoxicating !!!!The clutch is very, very smooth!!!!...acceleration and top speed are phenonominal!!! All the parts on this Ducati just work together like a well tuned athelete!!! Ducati truly understands the "rider" and "machine" relationship ....When you ride this bike you feel "one" with the bike !! When I rode the Jap bikes I did not feel connected! don't debate and beat yourself up.... Ride the Ducati S2R 1000 --buy the s2r 1000.... its worth ever penny!!! SWEET MONSTER!! Good luck and safe riding!!!

I picked up my Black/White S2R1000 two weeks ago and despite all of the rain have managed to break it in. This bike is an eye opening experience. The quality and finish and look is a work of art and the performance of this bike for this Cruiser Rider (2002 Fatboy) is astounding. The seating position suits me well. The bike is light and fast and just a blast to ride. The Ducati dealer has been excellent, and the people I have met are awesome. The bike gets 40MPG and rides better and better as I put on more miles. I have been breaking it in and it can easily go over 120+MPH on the highway without revving over 6,000 RPM (not that I've ever done that). Impressive is what it is. The bike has only 95 HP, but feels faster than some bikes I have ridden with more, guess that is power to weight ratio and quality HP! AWESOME MACHINE! Would buy again and will trade up to an S4RS (had a demo ride this week) in a few seasons. S4RS is the S2R1000 on steroids.

This is the finest machine and the best ride I have ever been on. And I have had 9 others, from supersport to cruisers. It is nimble, powerful, has great comfort for all day and torque on command. Overall, I am very happy with this bike. Comments are given left and right and it has gathered several crowds at work. Aftermarket parts only include Arrow carbon fibre tailpipes (which match the rest of the carbon fibre on the bike) and an open clutch cover (having found that clacking sound very satisfying). The only drawback in my opinion is the placement of the mirrors. They are perfectly position with the height of suv/truck mirrors, and so make squeezing between two such vehicles difficult. It really is uncanny at the number of SUV's in Los Angeles (where style offsets the practical), let alone how often these fuel cows stop right next to each other.
Still, the mirror problem is minor, and simply fixed by rotating the handlebars past the adjacent mirrors, though it often means having to come to a near stop to do so.

My Monster was my first motorcycle. I have put 2k miles on it since purchase. For a person unfamiliar with motorcycles, it feels quite fast at first. Eventually, however, you will want a more potent mill. On the other hand, every other aspect of this bike is solid gold. It has the look, feel, sound (!), and manners of a perfect bike. I originally bought it for commuting, but the Ducati culture will suck you in! I'll probably buy a different bike soon, but by different I mean a Monster with a bigger motor. By all means, though, this is the best place to START.

It cruises well at 65/70 on the highway but get ready for a sore butt after sitting in the same position. I recommend the less traveled roads where you twist and turn as one. I have put 400+ in a single day riding this 620ie. It is a passion! The more miles it achieves, the better it runs; it was made to ride. It averages about 51 mpg if ridden easy 48 throttle open. This is a monster of a motorcycle. Sure there are Japanese bikes out there but none can compare to the Desmo engine; it has all the right ingredients... Two wheels up.

I've not really opened mine up either (nothing over ~70 mph), but it has plenty of power to move a guy my size. You get lots of wind around that speed, but no worse than any other naked bike. Excellent clutch, gear box, brakes, steering, etc. Everything about the bike just feels great. The look and sound of the Ducati Monster is awesome too - like nothing else. Also, I think this is a great choice for beginners because it is very easy and forgiving to ride, the ergos aren't too aggressive, and you won't soon outgrow it. Go ride one; you'll fall in love too!

Things I don't like are the stiffly sprung front fork, low clearance, the front header always hits speed bumps, and the lack of a bigger storage compartment.
