Currently owning 2 of these bikes what follows is my assessment of the Honda Fury.
If you want Honda quality, a comfortable stretched out ride, amazing looks and a shot glass sized tank then this is definitely the bike for you. The Fury is an amazing specimen of a factory motorcycle that is built for fun. There are great aspects to the bike like the hidden single shock suspension, adjustable preload on the spring to adjust ride height, rubber mounted engine and smooth operating characteristics.
That being said there are some draw backs that keep this bike from being incredible. First, anytime you own a chopper style bike they can at times be difficult to live with. This bike has absolutely NO internal storage. If you want storage you will have to bag it. BUT when you put bags on this bike you detract from the over all look of the line. Also if you get the wrong type of bags that go across the rear fender you will absolutely damage the paint.
Next, if you buy a Fury from 2009-2012 the factory used starters from the VTX1300C and the starters are incredibly weak and the higher compression of the Fury 1300 will destroy it so if it has not been replaced with a superseded starter then be prepared to replace it. These starters can be purchased cheaply on Ebay. Also working on this bike can be a bit of a task. Unlike true customs that are generally built on wide frames the Fury is built on a narrow frame. Getting to wires and connections can be a bit frustrating but if you take the time to learn the bike you can get used to it.
Lastly, if you plan to keep the bike under 99 miles an hour then you will be happy with this bike but if you think you will go over 99 think again. The bike is governed at 99 mph and cuts out drastically after that. This CAN NOT be mapped or flashed out. The governance of this bike is linked to the speedometer and will lock the bike out if tampered with. You would have to do a full rebuild of the speedometer if you want to get more performance from this bike.
If you can live with these detractors then you will find the Fury to be one of the best bikes you can own. Brand new this bike sits $1000-$4000 less than a comparable bike from Kawasaki, Suzuki or Harley Davidson. Although I have purchased a Dyna Wide Glide for the fact that is has more power and is not governed under 100 mph but is similar in engine size, fork rake and dry weight.
Overall this is a fantastic bike and all you need to do is just sit back and twist the throttle. You will find this bike to be incredibly responsive and ready to take whatever paces you put it through.

Before the GL1800, I had the Honda Shadow - the VT750 which I wrote a review on, on this site as well. In 2011 I traded that in with something like 80,000 on the clock - but still running like new just like it came off the show room floor yesterday - for the GL1800. don't be fooled by the GL1800's size and weight, once it gets rolling. It seems to lose its heavy feel when standing still and corners and handles very nice with the grace of a ballerina while staying very firmly planted on the ground through corners that would make other bike rides have the hair on the back of there neck stand on end. Surprising really as this is my first GL1800 I have ever owned and it handles so light and nimble that it seems to be half of the weight that it really is. If you're seriously into touring, this is the bike to get hands down. don't let its flashy looks fool you into thinking that is a only a highway queen. I have taken my GL1800 on a 6-week, 28,000 km. touring ride through the Yukon, Alaska and North West Territories. If you think the roads are nice up there, think again. Many of the roads in the Yukon and the North West Territories are just plain gravel roads - sharp gravels that eat tires for breakfast and pot holes that you can lose a bike in! Rough...wow some, well many are so rough that the fillings in your teeth will fall out. The road's better suited to a 4-wheel drive truck then anything else. But this is what life is like up there. When it rains, then it's mud - sometimes ankle deep mud. These type of roads are the norm up there. Paved roads do not last through the harsh winters with temps dropping into the -40's and -50's for 6+ months out of the year. Again, the GL1800 excelled and handled all this in a exemplary fashion as it now became an over grown dirt bike must of the time. In all I think I did something in the area of about 3,500 or more km's up north on nothing but dirt and gravel and ankle deep mud when it rained, which was often enough. All this was done riding 2-up and loaded down to the point that I was well over the max weight limits set out in the manual. I know I was way over. I stopped at a truck weigh scale wondering just how much we weighed in at the beginning of the 6-week trip. I was well over the max. Then came the flash flood in the bad lands of Alberta that turned the small country highway I was on into a river that was near knee deep for a very long ways, and the GL1800 handled this like a real trooper. Then came the tornado, something I have never seen first hand and never experienced in my life. Now it turned into how fast can I get out of here, as there was no place to pull off, no place to hide. It was run for it, or end up becoming a part of it as in barreled right at me. With 2-up and well over weight, the GL1800 reached a speed of near 200 kmh. with ease and still had enough reserve power to take it beyond 200 and then some! The whole time it was well planted on the ground and under full control and did so with comfort. I on the other hand was nearing the point of having to need a fresh pair so shorts while staring into the eye of this monster tornado. I was doing very near 200 kmh. and being hit with leaves, twigs and other debris that was caught up and being thrown around by this killer which was now closing off my only way out its path of destruction. In a nutshell, it's a highway queen that knows how to have fun in the dirt and mud and has no problem going places that other bikes would fear to tread. For the serious touring rider this is the only bike you will ever need or want.

I picked mine up as a leftover. I actually wanted a Fury but the price was right for me. The power is pretty much what you would expect from a 1300cc motor and the stock pipes have a nice note for stock pipes. My only gripe is the mirrors don't give me a good look directly behind me and they...

The power is pretty much what you would expect from a 1300cc motor and the stock pipes have a nice note for stock pipes. My only gripe is the mirrors don't give me a good look directly behind me and they could've set the foot controls a little higher. I lean hard in turns and corners and I'm constantly banging the footpegs. The ride is a little rough on Pennsylvania pothole-riddled roads but on the highway and smooth runs, the long rake makes cruising a breeze. All around, it's a solid bike and it gets plenty of looks and compliments now that I put on Cobra pipes.

I have 20 years of riding all makes of bikes. This is the best overall do-everything bike. It gets great gas mileage, is light and inexpensive. It's smooth shifting and has easy handling. Everyone worries about vibration with this bike but I don't see it until 6k rpm. which is over 80 mph in 5th. Even a Gold Wing only runs 4k at 80 mph. The bike surprised me at how well it did on the highway. I really like the windscreen. The tank holds five gallons at 50 mph. When I first test drove it, the front end geometry felt too light and fidgety but the online websites said to dial in some preload and it worked. The only thing the bike needs for me is handlebar risers which are available online. I have the Honda stereo and it worked good to about 70 mph. with the windscreen up. You can get seats heated grips and larger saddlebag lids as well. The only thing I did not like was the seat but I never like stock seats so I added a bead pad and it was fine. Hard bags, adjustable windscreen, good range shaft, drive fuel injection = a great, low maintenance, all-around bike. Unfortunately, the bike did not sell well in 2010/11 so it may not be around long. You can get a great deal on one now. I can't recommend it enough.

The engine is smooth and powerful with major power available at any engine speed. The throttle is a bit sensitive at lower speeds but not unacceptably so. Handling and braking are quite good and the bike is stable even in significant crosswinds. The weight does show up at walking speeds and the electric reverse is a life saver when backing uphill. Storage space available is phenomenal. With the addition of the taller windshield and air wings, air management is near perfect. The seat is good and my wife loves the rear seat but the passenger backrest leans too far back. For my size/weight, more outboard support would be desirable in the driver's seat and I may switch to an aftermarket seat. The suspension could be more compliant to smooth tar strips. Overall, we love it and would buy it again.

I upgraded to this one from five years on a 49cc Ruckus because I needed more speed and power to increase the range and choices on my ride routes. I originally went to try out a PCX but wound up trying this one too and fell for it right away. The scooter is comfortable, accelerates instantly, runs smoothly, and is easy to maneuver at low and high speeds. I ride mostly back rural roads and lots of hills and the scoot goes right up them with very little loss of power. I've had it up to 40 mph. and it has room to spare. It's fun, versatile, and I have to say I am in love with my new scoot and feel that now I can really "go somewhere" on new adventures thoughout the countryside. Go get one!
