The Suzuki Vstrom DL650 is probably one of the best all around motorcycle built. It does everything well and is bullet proof reliable. Easy to ride, very agile, can cruise smoothly all day at 80 mph, handles very well in the twisties, interstate, backroads, and dirt roads. I have ridden two 650 Vstroms over 50,000 miles throughout the U.S. and Mexico multiple times. Taahe can be ridden like a sport bike or used like a pack horse. They don't feel heavy. The weight is low. Driven at speeds under 50 mph and get 60-80 mpg. The average mpg is always about 52 mpg. A good rider can keep up with any average sport bike rider in the tight mountain twisties, They are equally adept on rough roads in third world countries. In over 50,000 miles, I have never experienced any type of malfunction. The are just plain fun, versatile, and easy to ride bikes.

The Suzuki 800 is a fun and dependable bike however the older bikes can no longer be repaired at the dealerships because Suzuki as well as Yamaha no longer make parts and dealerships won't install non-OEM parts.
For example side panels, fenders and gas tanks are very difficult to find after market and OEMs are no longer made for many older models. After market extra capacity gas tanks are still available. Check your local dealer to insure they still service the year model you wish to purchase. Or learn to DIY.
Honda seems to be the best for older serviced models but even for the honda rebel honda no longer make gas tanks, side panels and fenders for the cruiser series.
For restoration enthusiasts new networks need to be established to exchange parts.

I had a 2009 DL650 (Wee-Strom) and really liked it, but was looking for something lighter with less fairing and plastic. I picked up a 2004 SV650 with about 23,000 miles in good condition. It's currently set up for commuting, and I have found the bike to be everything I was looking for. It...

It's currently set up for commuting, and I have found the bike to be everything I was looking for. It has less weight than the Wee with the same fantastic engine. It's fun to ride, extremely reliable and has tremendous aftermarket support. The only thing that prevents me from giving it a 5 for comfort is that the reach to the bars is a little far, but will correct that with risers or some new bars. I strongly recommend this bike to anyone.

What more can I say - this bike is a beast and with the right mods it's a Harley eating monster!

I love this bike! It's my 4th street motorcycle and I think it's a keeper! I started on a Honda Rebel 250 (technically, a Lifan LF200), then moved to a Suzuki DR650, then traded up to the Suzuki SV650S and have never looked back. I've been on many dirt bikes ages 5 to 17 and have ridden...

I love this bike! It's my 4th street motorcycle and I think it's a keeper! I started on a Honda Rebel 250 (technically, a Lifan LF200), then moved to a Suzuki DR650, then traded up to the Suzuki SV650S and have never looked back. I've been on many dirt bikes ages 5 to 17 and have ridden many other bikes including: Honda Shadow VLX600, Honda Shadow VT1100, Honda VTX 1300C, and a VSTROM DL650 (same motor as SV). Even with all the experience I still love my SV and have personally put 7000 miles on it. It has plenty of power to keep me satisfied and it handles like a dream! The suspension is quite stiff and brakes (not that I have ever needed more) are not the very greatest. For these two and only reasons I gave it 4 stars in performance and comfort. The bike has very little to no vibrations at all. At or below about 85-90 you don't even realize there is a motor spinning at 6500 rpm.+ and above that it's slightly noticeable. It does 90 mph. no sweat and will easily do 115 mph. and has a top speed of around 135 mph. It handles revving to 9500 rpm. without a problem. The bike is very crisp and excels beyond expectations in the twisties (which is where the fun is at). The fuel injection is a huge bonus, just start and go. These bikes are well known to get 100,000 miles and more! If you want a bike that goes 150 mph.+ this isn't for you. If you want a bike that has four cylinders to adjust and keep in sync this bike is not for you. If you want a bike that will scream to 14,000 rpm. it isn't for you. If you want a bike that is very reliable, has plenty of power, will keep up with a 600cc rocket, is great on gas, and looks great too; this might just be the bike for you.

As a bigger guy looking for a cruiser that could handle me but wouldn't feel too small, the Volusia fit the bill perfectly. I only had it for 6 months, but I put 3800 miles on it in those months through the Colorado winter, and the bug bit me so badly I'm now a factory certified bike mechanic. Only things I would say are change out the stock seat, and if you're going to be on the highway, get a windshield for it. Otherwise a beautiful, great handling, good powered bike, for first time riders or experienced ones alike. I hope to get my hands on another one again soon!

I have done a lot of work to the bike mechanically and some cosmetically and everyone who sees it cannot beleive how fast it is, how it handles or how it sounds (been told it sounded like a small boss hoss). I ride this bike whenever I can and have raced down the quarter mile and everyone is suprised how fast it really is. Not many bikes who can keep up with it and the ones that can cost nearly double in price...
