I've owned my SVS for a couple of months, and as a first bike, it is very confidence inspiring. Because of it's broad power band, light weight and riding position, this bike is very pleasing for a beginning rider. I would highly recommend the SV to any beginner wanting to get into the sportbike world. Aside from the soft front fork, the bike handles like a dream. This bike has the ability to be ridden hard, without worrying about the bike getting away from you. don't doubt the SV's V-twin, it can easily keep up with much more powerful inline-4's(600-1000cc). If you decide to purchase an SV, you'll be extremely satisfied. Just upgrade your stock pipe w/an M4 or Yoshimura and you'll love the bark of the V-twin. A sound that all inline-4's dream of.

When riding home from trading my naked SV650 on the V-Strom, I wondered, what have I done? The noise and buffeting from the stock windscreen was terrible. The naked bike was much better. After installing a Cee Bailey tall windscreen, I love the bike. It is light, handles well, and has adequate power for my mostly-solo riding. I use the bike mostly for rides not longer than ~5 hours, and if I did longer rides, I might be looking for aftermarket seats. The seat is so-so. As with other vehicles, the gas mileage varies a lot on how you ride. At 50-55 in a nature preserve where I like to ride, I get near 60mpg. At 75-80 on the Interstate, it's closer to 40. I don't have a lot of miles on my V-Strom because it is one of four bikes I have, but it's one of my all-time favorites.

I put 3000 miles on my bike commuting 60 miles daily this summer. It's my first road bike and so far has been fantastic. It's capabilities far exceed mine. I love the torquey V-Twin (not to mention the exhaust note) and the handling. The fairing and it's headlights look really nice - much nicer than the stardard SV. Ergos could be better - standard SV is easier on the wrists. Mirrors could stick out another 1.5 inches or so so I could see more road and less arm... Also - the throttle is very touchy - hard to ride slow and smooth. Overall a great bike. I may go for a V-Strom 650 next year though - more wind protection and more comfortable highway commuting.

The styling is fantastic, I've even had die hard Harley guys tell me "that's a heck of a nice bike". The response and the bikes handling makes you want to ride forever. I've gone on a 3 hour trip, and my only complaint is that I need a little more padding in the seat. A gel cover will fix that. I love riding my new bike.

Other bikes I've had include a Concours, Ducati 900SS, Yamaha Venture, Seca 650, Seca 550, and Kawasaki ZX750 Turbo. The DL is an excellent handling bike with superb backroad and freeway manners. It lopes along at about 4000 rpm at 75mph, yet really scoots when asked to get up and boogie. Plenty of support group folks for this bike that is sure to establish a cult-like following. The only down side is a too soft seat that gives butt-burn in about 100 miles. This is easily remedied.

Decent power (for a v-twin), very nice chrome and paint and great handling for a cruiser makes me proud to own this bike. Worthless stock seat has to be replaced immediately and stock exhaust is superquiet which to me is a shame as far as the "soul" factor goes. I have been riding for 34 years and have not owned a more completely satisfying bike to ride. Fun and trouble free bike.

The silver and chrome look awesome together...especially with exhaust going down both sides. I tried some Cobra slip ons which sounded good, but ended up cutting the baffles out of the stock mufflers and put them back on. What a great sound! Adding a wide highway bar with pegs. Harley's may be the popular choice, but I'll take this bike over similar Harley's any day. Much smoother shifting, etc.
