I bought this bike brand new and have had to do nothing other than annual maintenance. It always starts within 3 or 4 kicks, even after months of sitting. I have ridden numerous Japanese bikes of the '03 and '04 model years and none can compare with the Austrian machine. Favorite past times of mine are leaving hot-shot CRF 450 and YZF 450 riders in the dust. IMHO, no dedicated dirt machine out performs the KTM, and the 300 has the low-end grunt necessary for back-woods trail riding as well as an earth-shredding powerband that no other MX bike I've found can pace.

I just bought one of these bikes. I have ridden the '02 YZ's and RM's. Then I got the SX and I could beat the RM in any day of the week. When I got the bike I took it out for the first time and was with my Dad. He was on an '02 RM 125 and we raced and I smoked him. This bike is so fast and I would... read more

When I got the bike I took it out for the first time and was with my Dad. He was on an '02 RM 125 and we raced and I smoked him. This bike is so fast and I would say beginner's beware. The suspension is a little stiff but I'm light too.

I have come to the realization that these bikes go like crazy but you are spending a lot of the time getting it fixed. This was the case with my mate's bikes as well, and fixing them is not very cheap. I still think if you want to win, well the SX is a good tool to do so.

I have never been so smooth for an entire 2 hr race. It is an amazing bike. I could out accelerate CRF450's, and all the 2 stroke 250's. And in the corners it was like it was on rails. I have been spoiled in the handleing department by riding an 90 ATK 406 for a couple of years. The KTM handles better. Everything wors well on this bike. It powe4red trough deep muddy sand and roosted the competition in the straights. I highly reccomend it to experienced riders.

This is a rock solid ride, with easy maintanance. This is a rock solid ride, with easy maintanance. However, If your looking to run with modified 250s and 450 Hondas and Yamahas on a motocross track than factor in $500 for a Thumper racing 450 kit!!!!!!!!!! As a 400 the KTM just doesnt have the grunt and being a single cam motor it'll never rev like the Japanese bikes. But after the Thumper kit, it'll run hard through the midrange and is still a breeze to ride! Another thing of note, if your tracks arent super fast, 18mm triple clamps are the ticket. My KTM settles into turns like my 2000 CR 250 did!!! My only other mod is a Pro Circuit slip on, not alot of gain, but stock is to quiet. With the 450 kit installed this bike is 5 star plus, Happy Hunting MXP

I ride a Polaris RMK 800 in the Winter if you like that you will love this bike.

The only thing you need to do when you get the bike is put a aftermarket pipe on it because it tends to top out very quickly in each gear but evan without that it is still a beast!!! Begginers beware unless you have balls bigger than this things powerband because you all are in for a ride of your life!!!!
