2001 Honda reviews

I bought my bike new in the spring of 2001 and have put all but about 50 of the 82.6K miles on it. I have left it basically stock except for functional modifications. Stock pipes and carb jets, handlebars, etc. - all I can say for this bike is it is reliable as in all these years I have had to perform very few repairs. I replaced the plugs at 39K (checked at 49 and 82 and they still looked as good as new so I left them in), Stator at 39K, kill switch at 40k, diaphragms in the carbs at 60k. There was one front fork seal leaking at 70K. All together it cost less that $650 in these 11 yrs. The ride is great. I added a driver's backrest and although usually at about 100-130 miles I get a ache in my shoulders. I have the same problem no matter what I ride, including a Yamaha Venture I used to have. Riding with my wife is no problem as it has enough power for 2 up as well. It handles good and is very stable. I've done 400 miles a day on it and that's about all I want but know guys who can do more comfortably. I tried a Mustang Classic seat but it didn't agree with me so I went back to a stock one. It will cruise backroads at 40-50 mph. all day and hit the interstate at 75-85 just as well. It does lack a little in torque but once you learn to downshift and use 5th gear basically over 60-65, it's fine. Barring any major problems I am looking at over 100K on this bike as to be honest I haven't ridden anything I like better yet in its class. Show less

I've ridden everything from an 80 to a 500, and this bike is by far the best. It has crazy power, handles excellent and the brakes are good as always on Hondas. Show less

I'm a girl and haven't been riding long. I went from a 2003 CRF150F to a 2001 CR250R and I love it. Although, I'm still a little scared of it, it's for sure the fastest bike I've ever ridden. Show less

Other than routine maintainance, this ace has performed flawlessly. I have traveled across the southeast and made several trips to Washington, D.C. without a hitch. Some riders think that they have to blister the road 90 mph. and above. I don't know of anywhere in the USA where that is the speed limit. The bike is a cruiser not a race car. Sure, there are bigger and better, but for what you pay, it is a great affordable ride. Show less

I went from a 2004 Kawasaki KX85, to a 2001 Honda CR250R. All I can say is wow! This thing is a monster. I was making 450's look slow all day long. This bike is not for beginners. I'm 14 and have been riding for 11 years, and it's one scary bike. It rides so smooth, my forks and back shock are set for someone around 170 lbs. I played with the compression bit and it's set perfect for my 140 lbs. The stock foot pegs aren't the best, so I got some ProCircuit Flow Through Wide pegs and they're much better. Show less

Three words describe this scooter: Alot of Fun! I bought my '01 from a guy that lives about 10 miles from me. I got an incredible deal on it ($1200!!). The bike had only 2800 miles on it when I bought it. The only things I have had to do have been to replace the tires (10" rear, 12" front) and replace the cap that covers the antifreeze compartment (blew off when riding). The bike runs like a champ. Off the line, it smokes other cars at a stop light. I have had the scooter over 70 mph (as indicated by the dash), but suspect its about 2-3 mph less than that. Most of the time, on the highway, I ride about 65 mph. I get nearly 70 mpgs!!! The quality and build of the bike is admirable. I have owned many bikes over my time riding, and this has to be among the most comfortable bikes I have ever ridden. Sometimes though, my upper back starts to hurt, due to the far forward positioning of my feet. This bike has a lot of practicality to it, too! There's ample storage in the rear. It can easily hold two full face helmets, or several bags of groceries! The bike has easy to use signals, lights and an easy to understand dashboard. It even has a digital fuel gauge! The bike has a front brake on the top right handle and a rear brake on the floorboard right side. I love the looks of the scooter and get lots of compliments and questions, something which I never got on a regular motorcycle. All in all, you can't go wrong with this scooter. It's so much better built than what you will find in the Chinese Clone market (take the QLink clone for example, which just looks like a Helix, without the quality parts!!). If you want a reliable, good looking, great performing bike, and can find one used, buy it!!! Show less

I have had this for about a year and know two others that have had the same bike. Thay have not had any problems with theres and either have I. First off this is a bike you wouldn't want to take on long tours. It's rather small and could use a little more power for the highway. At 75 mph, it's sceaming but I replaced the rear sprocket to a smaller one and that has helped a lot. The bike is great for weekend trips (one up) and commutes and just riding around. Runs like a swiss watch. It's very responsive and quick handling for a crusier which makes it a blast around town. I own another much much larger crusier and this bike is a fun change of pace after spending time on the larger one. I could go on and on about this bike, but the bike is a basic, perfectly running, fun machine. It really is a blast to wring the heck out of it. If you need just a basic motorcycle thats still a blast to own and once you have it costs very very very little to own (gas, insurance) you can't do much better then this. Show less

The Valk is my 11th bike in 34 years of riding. I had a BMW K 1200 RS before which was a fine bike. Valks are not very common here but when I saw this 11 year old beast by a local dealer I was in love straight away. I was not planning on changing bikes but I did after I test drove the Valk. Maybe because I'm getting older and I found myself hanging more and more to retro styling because all this modern futuristic bikes these days I cannot fall in love with. Also self maintenace is getting very hard on modern bikes these days. Back to basics with carburetors my last bike with that was 12 years ago. I never owned a cruiser before. The Valk is more normal with plenty power to have loads of fun. It fits my style of riding. The bike fits my stature more and it does have a great ride with great cornering. I still drive with some BMW friends and they are surprised at first that I could keep up with them even give them a run down for there money. The only disappointing thing was the fuel usage. I think in the states you travel around 75 miles an hour then this bike is great with 3000 revs but here, well everybody drives around 140 km (90 nm) and then the fuel usage is very high. It means a tank stop every hour, that's rough but I can live with that because the fun factor is very high on this bike. Also the look factor - people look at me and start conversations about the bike and that's a first for me. I like it and I will keep it for years to come. And I am on zero now I could get used to milecounter so I chanced it to km counter now I start fresh al km are mine from now on to make. Show less

Bought this bike a year ago with just under 12,000 miles. Had to rebuild the carb to get it running, which wasn't bad at all. Had it 14 months now, and put over 3,000 miles on it. I rode it from Yuma to San Diego once, and otherwise all around Yuma and now all around Phoenix. My ride to work is 100 miles round trip and I do it on the bike 2-3 days a week. Overall it's been a great bike to me without many issues other then those that come with age and basic maintenance. There's a good aftermarket for it. I ride the free way every day and it'll stay at 70mph+ easily. Only complaint I have is the turn signals sometimes take 20-30 seconds to start blinking on cold mornings, but I haven't taken the control apart yet to regrease as I was told you might have to do. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this bike as a great starter bike. It's got a nice low seat height, wide/comfy seat, and will hang on the freeway all day long. Show less

I bought a used 01 ace. Was my first bike in over 20 years. Very reliable never let me on the side of the road. Comfort is awesome, lot of upgrades avalible. Mine looked like a smaller H.D. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of power that a 750 puts out. My wife likes to ride with me and my bike struggles a bit, we are both heavy. I have test drove many larger cruisers and found that my ace is hard to beat in comfort and control, but I did finally buy a 05 c90t. 1500cc another awesome bike. Show less
