Here is the whole truth and nothing but the truth! The 1999 Busa is and always will be the fastest (top Speed) mass production bike in the world. This is because motorcycle manufactures put limiters on their bikes starting in 2000. 185mph is the most any stock bike can do. The 12R was designed to beat the Busa for 2000 when it first came out (it has more horse power), but it never had a chance to prove it because of the new limiters installed for that year. Their were top speed tests done with the limiters removed and the 12R beat the Busa. The Busa has a more aero dynamic body thats easier to push through the wind than the 12R though. Kawasaki had a similar design for the 12R's body, but they didn't want to release it because it was considered UGLY. They were afraid people would not buy it. The 12R also has more leg room than the Busa (it's taller) which is nice for people over 6 feet tall. Personally I like the looks of the 12R better. It's got twin head lights and a fatter rear tire than the Busa. I could never get used to the Lemon shape front end and strange looking tail of the Busa. I have to have it all: good looks, comfort and high top speed.

There is an exhaust backfire, possible carb jets or Calif emissions. Otherwise a lot of bang for the buck!

Just got back from a trip from Indianapolis to NC and Tennessee. The bike handled very well on the highway, but I will tell you side winds slowed me down to 50 MPH at times... most of the time I was able to cruise at 80 MPH with no problems. Even going through the mountains, it handled beautifully despite the heavy rain. After riding 500 miles on the trip my butt started to feel pain, and by the time I reached 800 it was screaming... the trip was just shy of 1200 miles, and I can tell you it took me a few days to recoup. Still think this is a great bike, it is very responsive, torky little thing, and it's got a lot of pep. The bike is perfect for camping. I took tons of stuff strapped to the back (I have no luggage rack - bike is stock) and even being a bit heavy, bike was great on the highway. I have been riding with folks who ride cruisers, and I sometimes struggle to keep up if they decide to speed, but I think it is mostly because of the unusual Spring/Summer season we've had in the midwest... too much rain and tons of wind. While all bikes don't like the wind, the DR really hates it. Your question, "Do I recommend the bike?" You BETCHA! Buy this bike and you won't be disappointed. By the way, it's been getting anywhere between 50 to 60 MPG and with gas prices this high, this bike pays for itself every time you ride it! It is kind of cool to be riding a bike that is different from eveyone else. Lots of people came to talk to me about the bike.

THIS BIKE IS SOLID. THIS SUZUKI PACKS THE PUNCH AND RELIABILITY EVEN FOR A LARGE RIDER SUCH AS MYSELF. I've NEVER HAD PROBLEMS, NEVER FOULED A PLUG (KNOCK ON WOOD) AND OTHER THAN ROUTINE MAINTENANCE THIS BIKE HAS BEEN A STRONG PERFORMER FOR THE THREE YEARS I've OWNED IT. I REPLACE THE REEDS OFTEN, BUT THATS BECAUSE I LIKE IT WIDE OPEN AND REEDED OUT TO CROSS SO CAL'S DESERTS. AS MUCH ABUSE AS I've PUT THIS BIKE THROUGH IT'S NEVER STUTTERED ONCE. THE SLIGHT CONS WOULD BE THE SHORT TEMPERED THROTTLE--IF YOU GET SCARED TURNING ON A LIGHT SWITCH, THIS BIKES NOT FOR YOU. THE SLIGHT AND INSTANT 0-100% POWER RESPONSE WILL CATCH YOU OFF GUARD AND UNEXPERIENCED RIDERS WILL BE TAKEN FOR A LOOP. I've GOT A LOT OF COMPLAINTS FROM BUDDIES ABOUT THE INCONSISTENT POWER CONTROL, ESPECIALLY WHEN CORNERING, CLIMBING OR LOW SPEED MANUEVERING. I HAVE GROWN USED TO IT AND LOVE EXPECTING THAT KICK WHEN I ROLL ON THE GRIPS. REAR BRAKE WAS TOUCHY AND LOCKED QUICK BUT EASY MINOR ADJUSTMENTS FIXED THAT QUICK. I LOVE THIS BIKE AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WITH GOOD CLUTCH CONTROL AND CAN TAKE THE INSTANT POWER HIT AND KEEP IT UNDER WRAPS. DO NOT GIVE THIS BIKE TO YOUR FOURTEEN YEAR OLD SON FOR HIS BIRTHDAY. ALL IN ALL ON OF THE FUNNEST, PUNCHIEST BIKES I've EVER OWNED. WELL DONE SUZUKI!

I have received many compliments in the short period of time that I have owned it. Even had one "nice harley" remark. Roll on the throttle and the bike responds. Only CONS I have are, like most others THE SEAT! What were they thinking? Its like sitting on a piece of granite! Crosswinds and semis call for some white-knuckle riding, and the low handlebars take a bit of getting used to (for me anyway). Over all I am very, very pleased with my new toy. When I'm not riding, I spend most of my spare time polishing the bike.

I just purchased a new 2004 'Busa. Having ridden a 2002 CBR1100 XX I can tell you there's miles of difference between the two. This is just my opinion of the two, that comes from riding motorcycles of every type since I was 16 and I'm now 57. The Honda has a hard seat, I can only do about 45 minutes at a crack when I'm fresh. When I'm tired I can only manage about 20 minutes. The riding position is such that it puts a lot of stress on my wrists and hands. The Honda also seems geared too low. It feels like you should be able to shift it up one more gear out on the higway. The 'Busa has a much more comfortable seat on it and the riding position is a lot more comfortable to me. I feel like I'm more of a part of this machine. The big Suzuki flip flops thru the turns easier and feels much more nimble that the CBR does. The bike has so much torque it's like driving an endless torque generator or an unbeliveably fast tractor. The transmission up and downshifts better than the Honda. The ergonomics are excellant and the suspenion has lots of adjustment to it unlike the Honda which has none on the front and minimal on the back. The Hayabusa's ride is much better than the XX in my opinion. However the linked braking on the Honda is taking me some getting used to on the Suzuki because of it's lack of that. It feels like the brakes on the Busa, are quite as good, I think this is just me. I've only got about 24 miles on the bike as of today. I'll tell you one thing, it's a beauty of a machine and anybody that bad mouths it really hasn't ridden one. It might not be as nimble as the Ducatti's and some of the lighter class bikes but then hey it's a bigger machine and designed with a different crowd and end in mind. I love this bike.
