Currently ride Buell S3T, K1200LT, F-650 (Woods Performance Engine Kit) and R1200C. Cruiser just returned from a tour with 6,000 miles on the odometer. Equipped with B-Bags (sold by Chase Harper). This is a neat solo-tourer. Plenty of power, good brakes, handling, gas mileage and a comfortable seating position for solo riding. BMW windshield gives a bit too much wind buffeting for my taste, though this is an individual thing. Upgraded brake light to a Kisan flashing unit that just plugs into stock mount. Also, Kisan pulsating headlight plug in module. Bike works flawlessly and is a joy to ride.

You can now add this cruiser to my list.

When I was looking for just the right first bike, I thought I found it with the 99' F650. Not a cruiser, not a crotch rocket, just a good fun bike. It was at first, until I took my first passenger for a ride. We stopped for gas, and upon removing the key from the ignition, the plastic dust guard popped out. The bike would not start and we were left stranded. First of all, why a plastic dust guard. If the bike would have been fixed within a week, it wouldn't have been so bad. That was June 15, 2001. It is now July 14, 2001 and I am sitting here writing this instead of riding on a pretty day. Getting parts for this bike is a pain in the neck. The supplier in Germany said it would be another 2 to 4 weeks before the part comes in. I may have a lemon, but this has left a bitter taste in my mouth and my next bike will not be a "Beemer."

I was sure that this was the bike for me after years of Harley troubles and with BMW's excellent reputation. My new 2000 K1200LTC was the purfect bike for the first 4,000 miles, then the vibrating started. I was 500 miles from home when the bike started vibrating so bad that I could not feel my hands or my feet; very dangerous situation on a motorcycle. I got no help from the dealership and ended up selling the bike at a $5,000 loss just to get rid of it. My only other complaint is no room for highway pegs, you can only sit for so long with your knees bent so severely. I now ride a new 2001 Electra Glide and will never betray Harley again. Thanks BMW for the rude awakening, Harley is still the best!!

I have to give this bike a 5 star rating. Its few flaws are minor and its superb engineering and many standard extras make this a great bike. I like to try many different bikes. I currently have 2 Wings, 2 Suzukis and a 2001 Harley T-Sport. My SV 650 is the only bike that's better handling, but it's about 250 pounds lighter. This is my third R1100RT. I just bought this one after being disappointed with my 2001 T-Sport. The Harley offers similar features, but it doesn't have anywhere near the refinement of the RT. My wife took her first ride of over an hour on the Harley last night and said she wished we had the RT. OK, the stock seat is an almost unanimous complaint. I modified mine and it's acceptable. The gearbox is clunky, but it's not a problem as you get used to it. It has a dry clutch so you can't abuse it like a wet clutch or it will go up in smoke. The many exceptional features such as the great suspension and handling, ABS, adjustable seat, removable luggage, oh, and the fun and practical windshield make this one superb bike that I keep coming back to. After reading the reports about the new R1150RT I may keep this one!

I've put a bit over 10K (miles) since purchasing Aug 2000, and can not find anything this bike can't do well. Sure it doesn't have the dirt manners of my KTM 360MXC, but who'd want to take a $15K bike and thrash it in the dirt? It will easily carry 140lbs of camping gear (I like to be comfortable, okay) and still grind the pegs. When you do pull off the pavement to go down to your favorite fishing hole or campsite, you can do it without any type of pucker, be it dirt, gravel or whatever. Just don't try to be Travis Pastrana. Brakes are killer, this bike will do a stoppie! ABS is wonderful for those greasy parking lots and cell phone talking soccer moms. Just squeeze hard and forget. Transmission is excellent. Gears one through five are excellently spaced with 6 being very deep (need to be over about 85-90 MPH to be of use). Also very smooth shifting, Honda riders may disagree, but gears are full width so it may seem notchy to the uninitiated. Heated grips should be mandatory on any bike, they make all year riding fun. Has a large tank, about 225 miles worth if your smooth on the gas. Not too hard to provoke a wheelie. The best part though is embarrassing sport bikes in the medium to very tight twisties. This thing will lean WAAAAAAAAAAY over. Granted through high speed sweepers it doesn't have the power a liter class sport bike has. I have a GPS confirmed top speed of 146 MPH, without saddle bags. I have a zero problems with my GS and have decided it is truly a KEEPER.

Now with 2,000 miles coming up on this beauty it's almost broken in. I really like the fact that now the engine is much less buzzy at 70-75 miles per hour. Earlier with less miles I found myself wishing for one extra highway gear to reduce rpms and buzziness. Now, however I am pleased. Over all this is a very fine motorcylcle and a real head turner. I have ridden for many years on Hondas, Yamahas, Suzukis, MotoGuzzis, Harleys and BMWs. I love the engineering, ABS brakes and tribute to past BMW styling on this R1200C. It seems there is little to improve upon. However, being an enthusiast and a perfectionist I do have three suggestions. 1. Let's do something about those ape hanger handlebars! They really detract from the styling of the bike. The Euro bars and short bars are too short and do not allow the full use of the cool integrated backrest. OK styling and aftermarket guys, lets come up with a set of low flat pullback bars that compliment the style but come back far enough to keep me from reaching. I am experimenting with a "mini beach bar" now. And remember, BMW controls dictate that the 1 inch bar at the clamps are reduced in diameter at the controls (poor design). 2. Let's improve that fuel injection so that it is not so touchy in acceleration and deceleration, Wow! One tiny increment of grip twist either way in the corners and Oh Boy! 3. How about a full front fender to compliment that 1930's styling, with a little chrome trim perhaps? I may sound picky, but hey this may be the best example of art, styling and technology (front and rear suspension, ABS) on the planet - let's not stop here, let's go for perfection!

I averaged 50-55 mpg and used 1/4 quart of oil. I don't want to say the seat is uncomfortable, because when I had the chance to stretch out the legs I didn't incur any pain, but when you get stuck with just using the pegs, because you have 35-40mph cross winds for 400+ miles...YOU DO GET A LITTLE SORE. I think the passenger pegs are a little too close, tend to get in the way of the driver, but the balance with a passenger, Is Great!!! Well I'm off to Southern Illinois on 11 May taking the Looooooooooooong way, about 2800 miles. Hope to see ya on the road.
