Top speed was 145 mph. Now I have the 1999 nomad, the factory seats are great, power is an issue and I shift into 5th gear at 65mph. The gas tank should be bigger. I removed the exhaust bladder and that helped with power, getting ready to install the hyper charger and Vance and Hines pipes, which should help out greatly. I have over 50,400 miles on it with no complaints.

Cold blooded yep, single carb yep, chain drive yep, manual choke yep, but what a fun bike to ride! She's a '99 with 30k kms on it. Had it for sale last fall, took it out to be sure it was workin' fine and on the way home I thought...."I need my f'n head examined!". Called the dude, apologized for the pullback. That little girl makes me smile every time I walk thru the garage to put the wieners out to pee. She's an original Harley 'wanna be' the bell ringer being the round chrome air cleaner...What a great bike! Lotsa chrome but no mods. Happy happy happy.

This is the fastest bike I've ever ridden. With my brother's GPS tied around my neck, I got it to 39 mph in third, 48 in fourth, 56 in fifth and 64 in sixth (I didn't hit full speed in sixth and I was not on the road). This bike handles like a dream, stops on a dime, and accelerates like a rocket.... read more

Great all-around performer and excellent sport tourer. The last big bore superbike with carburetors. Comfortable with strong midrange and top end. The size and weight of a 600 with the power of an 1100. Smooth and quiet, no need for an aftermarket pipe (I have a 49-state spec bike). Handles great for a big bike, especially since my other bike is a TZR250 (Yamaha). Nice throaty sound from the stock pipe. Good brakes, large 46mm forks, and a 5 gallon gas tank round out this best in class performer.

I ride all year round & the fairing offers exceptional protection from the wind & elements, though there is a lot of helmet buffeting w/stock shield. My only complaint is that routine maintenance is a pain w/all the plastic to disassemble. Easily the best of the 6 bikes owned over the past 25 years (84 Kawi 440, Maxim, 88 Yam Virago, 89 Yamaha Venture Royal, 94 Magna & wife's 05 Vstar 650)

Very little maintenance has been needed (speedometer cable) and I have to admit I maxed it out at 130 mph to see what it could do in a safe environment. I don't see this bike dying before 100,000 miles.

When I went to look at this, basically stock, bike I was surprised. I am a large man, but it fit pretty well, and the first time I rode it the power it had with me on it was very pleasing. Now if I can find a fault with it, it would be that my long old legs need a bit more room, but that can be remedied with forward controls, which I wanted anyway. Personally I think the bike is better suited for a shorter individual, if someone wants to keep it stock. Since I have plans to customize it I am not concerned. I have found many aftermarket parts to do what I want. Having a steak appetite and a hamburger budget, this suits what I want very well in balance, comfort, and power.

I had one of these when I was 14 and I had always regretted selling it. I saw one in the paper and went and picked it up at a good price. The front and rear fender are faded and the seat is faded but nothing is broken. I will have to do some repair on the kickstand/footpeg as it seems to have had the bolts stripped on it. The cool thing is that it starts every time on the 1st kick. I was worried that it wouldn't take me around like it should because of me being too big for it, but if your not worried about impressing anyone it will get you around trails just fine. I am going to use it for deercamp, goofing off, and following my kids around on their various motorsports adventures as they get older. In this case power and speed are not necessary. I personally would never take it out on the highway but for small town streets and suburbs it will do good. I am a big fan of cruiser bikes but right now this will do and hopefully I will keep it for a long time to come. I will update in a year or so.
