1999 Honda reviews

My girlfriend talked me into buying this bike last year. I didn't really want it, but now I am truly hooked. Only bad thing is now I NEED something bigger. don't get me wrong...it's an awesome bike. I added k&n air and oil filter, cobra pipes and jet kit and flame grips. After changing what I'm guessing was the original (clogged) fuel filter, it all came together. Scary fast and loud (no baffles). As for the guy who said weird gear ratios, the pipes and jet kit took care of that. It hits the rev limiter much quicker now if you want to, and much less downshifting and lugging. Now JUST WANT BIGGER AND BADDER! No disappointments. Ride long and safe! Show less

I just bought a 1999 Shadow VLX Deluxe a month ago. It is the best bike I have ever had. I am a pretty big guy and it takes me down the road really well. There is nothing I can put down about the bike for I have ridden many different bikes and this by far is a A++ Bike!!! Show less

Between my husband and I, we have logged over 116,000 miles on this bike and it has not had a top end done on it yet. This bike is the best platform to customize and is quite affordable. The lines that grace this bike are awesome, she vibrates quite a bit, and is a blast to ride. Show less

I was 17 when I bought my first used bike (2001 Yamaha R-6). I was 19 when I bought my first new bike (2004 Yamaha R-1). Man that R-1 could move! I sold that bike after I turned 21 and thought about getting out of riding the sport bikes, but I knew that I would always have a need for that sport bike power. I stumbled on to a 1999 Honda Valkyrie. Wow, was I swept off my feet when I laid eyes on this beautiful, yet beastly dragon. I had to have it. I was 22 years old in my town riding with kids my age that would laugh at me when I pulled my bike into the group for a Friday night ride. But when I got to the front of the line and was waiting at the next stop light for them to catch up, they didn't laugh much after that. I'm glad I made the switch to the Valkyrie. I've had more guys tell me that if I ever want a good bike that I should never sell my Valkyrie. I listened to them and I plan to ride this bike for a very long time. Show less

Bought a used '99 Green & Silver Interstate in June '07 - only 3845 miles on it. Great ride either single or two-up. It'll handle twisties with ease and has plenty of power. The 1520 engine runs at slightly ;-) more than posted speeds with no strain, even when loaded down. Noisy tires when cornering (famous growl). Just made a 1,000 trip on it with the biggest grins on our faces. Always getting looks and comments - people think it's a new model. Compliments my '97 Magna for big-boy fun! Show less

I recently purchased a 1999 Honda Shadow Ace 1100 with 22k mi. My last bike was a Honda Elsinore MT250. This is my 4th bike, although it has been awhile since my last bike. About 20 years! Caught the fever again after my son bought a Buell Blast. Was really looking for a 650 Vstar or a 750 Shadow but a salesperson told me that they would not put out enough power for 2 up riding, so I decided to go with something bigger. Was a little intimidated by the size at first, I'm not a very big guy! But after a week of riding around the neighborhood, I now feel very comfortable with the 1100. Took a few times to get used to letting out the clutch really slow. I am a truck driver and am used to just letting out the clutch on a Kenworth, and it goes. This is a really fun bike to ride. I really like the styling, seems like an older style bike. I always liked the Indian Chiefs and the look of older Harleys, but the prices on those are a little out of my budget for right now. Maybe someday, but for now this is a very classic looking bike. Mine is black and red with wide white walls. Because of the single pin crank, this thing sounds just like a Harley. Lawsuit, I know, but whatever. I didn't build it, I just love the way it sounds! Especially since someone put Vance and Hines pipes on it. The neighbors must really be loving me now. Anyway, I am so glad I went with a bigger bike. Probably will never have to upgrade. Basically this is just such a nice looking bike, that I spend a lot of my time just looking at it in the garage. Rode a friend's 97 Valkyrie Tourer and knew I had to have a Valk for myself. Purchased a 1999 Interstate with 45K miles and an N-Line trailer. This bike is so comfortable...there is absolutely no vibration, and the performance is outstanding...VERY FAST. If you don't want to buy one...don't ride one. Show less

I bought my F4 in July of 2005 from the original owner (a friend of a friend). It only had ~2800 miles on it. Great shape except for a few minor scratches, and totally stock. In less then 2 years I have put over 25,000 miles on it! A lot of Arkansas trips, track day, and many local rides (not a ton of commuting). It's a great all around bike, especially for the cost and age! Show less

These are the ultimate Trail Bikes...durable, easy to maintain, good power and affordable. While the 1995/6/7 models had some carburation glitchs and unusual suspension settings, the post 1998 bikes saw those items addressed and yielded fine machines that were fun to ride. With occasional valve clearance inspections/adjustments and oil & filter changes with a quality oil, these bikes are capable of many thousands of miles without any motor work. I know, my 1986 XR600 has logged over 30,000 miles of Colorado 500 and Baja trips with NO motor repairs whatsoever. It continues to run with the pack as it accumulates greater mileage. The 400 has a lighter feel and makes a better woods bike while possessing all the legendary dna that made XRs famous. Show less

Extremely reliable, superbly comfortable and jaw-droppingly fast. I've had my CBR600 up to 275km/h...and the bike still had 4000rpm left to redline. As far as fuel economy goes, for a bike it's kind of a pig (my little '88 Mazda B2200 gets better mileage) but what can you expect from an engine that delivers than kind of power. I've toured between Victoria, Vancouver, Prince George, Edmonton, Calgary and back to Victoria (a trip of about 5000 km) and while my shoulders and rear end were a little tired all and all the bike performed spectacularly well. And and as far as cornering goes, I nearly crapped my pants the first time I dragged the pegs (this is my first bike) but the motorcycle didn't even blink. Steady and smooth no matter how hard you have it leaned over. Truly a tremendous bike and if you have a chance to pick one up in good shape, by all means scoop it up. Before I do. Show less
