I've had this bike for 3 years now. Yes it had oil leaks inthe head gaskets at 4,500 miles and at 9,250 miles. But from what I have read this is inherent to this engine design. Maybe I didn't let it warm up enough. Yes it is tiring on the highway, and it is not very comfortable for your passenger. Bottem line, its a Harley, with the Cycle Shack slip-on mufflers it sounds like a big twin. Its a beautiful bike to look at and I enjoy working on it, I know every nook and cranny. Its not perfect but its mine. Its everything I expected from a Harley. I wouldn't have been happy with anything else, and ina perfect world I would own one of everything!

I bought this bike 'cause I traditionally like the look, sound and nimble feel of the 1200 Sportster, but I tote my wife with me on many outings and we appreciate the extra saddle space afforded by the Dyna. I installed the stage II big bore kit with Screamin' Eagle mufflers and the K&N air filter assembly, and it makes this bike rock! 3rd or 4th gear roll-ons for passing are like afterburner time. Having owned many Italian, Jap and English bikes (2, 3 and 4 cylinder variety) I know the feeling of power, and this bike will blow many of the aforementiond bikes off the highway. It's not a Ducati or a Buell off the line, but it sure isn't anyone's patsy when those big pistons start to pump. I like it! H-D dealer service is as usual -- it sucks!! I try to do all of my maintenance work myself, and with the help of a friend that went to the H-D school, we manage to keep everything aligned and smooth. The engine with 8000 miles (4500 on the big bore kit) is smooth, oil tight and very reliable. I recommend this machine for anyone that likes a reasonably light, nimble sport touring American bike. The FXDX-T might be my second choice.

I like the fact that I can just twist the throttle in 4th gear and get instant quick response for passing or pulling away from traffic. No need to down shift to pass. This bike is torquey. I have only rejetted the carb and added a K&N air filter...in the future i will add low restrictive muffler for a few extra horses. This bike fits me well I am only about 5' 10 and 175 lbs. This is a good buy and investment. I could sell this bike today for more than I paid for it.

Bought the bike in October of '98 and have since put 23,000 mi on it. It needs better brakes for emergencies and spirited riding. I've had a couple of problems. Headlight plug melted down at 10,000 miles, Bank Angle switch went out (didn't know it had one?) leaving me stranded on side of road. Negative battery cable broke from vibration but was I able to repair on side of road. This bike is jetted waay too lean and will backfire through the carbuerator unless you re-jet the carb. This bike was built for a 55 mph world and is not really meant as a carpool lane (California) flyer....80 mph is a little much for the brakes/sus- pension/tube type tires, etc. It's a great bike for two-lane back roads and handles really well at moderate speeds. This is my fifth street bike and my first experience with Harley.

Oh, and by the way....most of the negative reviews on the Harley dealer have little or nothing to do with the bikes themselves, but the dealer. Trust someone who owns one and is honest about how great this little time capsule is.

Not especially impressed with the finish on fastenings, wheel rims, and yolks etc. Maybe thats something to do with the damp garage it was kept in and the English climate? Whatever, for the money I expect more. Also experienced an 'engine event' in the way of the engine light coming on, on more than one occasion. Took it to the dealers and they said "no problem with the bike, the battery is a bit low and the sensing system is too sensitive" Enough to make you worry though. Maybe take the wires off in a couple of years! On the plus side, almost everything I was expecting, I love it. The look, feel, and sound is unique, and the emotional feedback is second to, ........nothing. And if thats not enough it does 50 ml / gal. I havent had that since my Bonnie in 76! It probably deserves 5 stars but the price issue takes the edge off it for me. Get one and check it out!

This is my first Harley after many years of riding all of the other Jap bikes. I finally was able to afford the bike I wanted. After initially wanting a fat boy cause they look cool. Then realizing I wanted the bike for some serious vacation travelling i then had my heart set on a heritage Softail, but those studded saddlebags just didn't do it for me. So the price tag just kept going up. Then I found it in the paper road king classic 1999.15,900 I got on the phone and bought it. I bought it in March road it to Daytona for bike week. With a BMW buddy of mine, his Beemer broke down in the parking lot of the HD dealer. I thought the Harleys were supposed to be unreliable? Had a good time crazy riding a beemer buddy around (not). August I took the classic from Southwest Florida to Illinois all back highways it was the best trip the bike ran great not one problem. Beautiful scenery, I cant wait to go to Sturgis next year via Oklahoma to pick up my bro who just bought A 2000 RKC -- he had to out do his little bro.
