OH. to Deal's Gap and the Blue Ridge Parkway. 1,750 miles in six days. ran perfect and handled excellent for a cruise. don't be fooled into buying a v-twin. V-4 is just so much better....

I almost made one of these my first street bike back in 1995, but after recently moving into a new house the timing was all wrong. Too bad for me, I still love this color scheme. The bike on the showroom floor at the dealership had a custom white leather button tucked seat w/matching backrest (and no doubt a set of white leather saddle bags would have done wonders to boot), but fate would make me wait two more years for a black/yellow Deluxe in May 1997. For the nostalgia nuts, 1995 was the first year for the VLX face lift, featuring a larger 2.9 gallon tank (that was also on the 94 model), but the best thing that happened to the VLX in my humble opinion was replacing the original one piece narrow bar with a set of risers and a wider and more natural feeling bar. It was released alongside Honda's all new 1100 ACE. I did end up buying a 95, although fate kept me from my fave color again. I picked up a used burgandy/white in October 1999 that had a mere 1400 miles on it, de-baffled stock pipes, and if that wasn't enough it had a generous helping of aftermarket replacement accessories. But my intention for the bike was something that hadn't been done yet, at least stateside anyways. I acquired a kit from Seeger Cycle Accessories that transformed my VLX into a one off custom wide-glide chopper! It now boasts 50 degrees of sexy rake with 8" over fork tubes and a 10" medium ape hanger bar on HD style risers. Out back the rear was dropped down 1 3/4" with a lowering kit, and a leather fork bag is mounted above the headlight. Now the obnoxious pipes match the bike's personality. Needless to say, if the bike didn't draw enough attention before, it certainly doesn't escape anyone's notice now! Not the mod to make if you want to remain anonymous. My girlfriend wants a bike, so after we take the MSF course I'll be tracking down a purple/white bike for her to ride. "I will have one. Oh, yes; I WILL have one..."

I'm not aware of any other bike that gives you this much bang for the buck. It's reliable, powerful, quick/fast, not ugly, cheap to insure (considering the performance, nimble (for a 500 pound bike), and reasonably comfortable. I've had a 94 model for 4 years and own a few other newer bikes (2 Harleys and a KLR650 dual sport). There are a few nits to consider. The cam on the first year model makes a ticking sound, which the dealer claims isn't harmful and will not shorten engine life (You can look up service bulletin number 1 on Honda's site.) The engine is exceptionally smooth and power is linear. When you get the revs up, it's a hoot! The clutch isn't grabby and requires very little lever force to operate. While the brakes are adequate, I find the front a little soft at times and the rear drum difficult to modulate compared to the rear disks on my other bikes. While I don't like the brakes, they are reasonably effective and reliable. The small fuel tank limits your range and the fuel economy isn't great (low 30's), but the bike goes like a bat! Consider a windscreen. This bike seems to channel air into your torso and face rather than try to split it above and around you. Finally, I've kept the bike mostly for my newbie 18 year old son to ride. I have a better cruiser and a touring bike. The Magna is an odd duck. It's capable of doing anything (cruise, tour, twisties), but does nothing exceptionally well. On the other hand, if you don't have much to spend and can own only one bike, you can do alot worse than a Magna. I'm due to add a more sporty bike to the fleet.

I use the bike as an occasional "escape" into the Florida Keys. It is somewhat important to add a windshield and highway pegs for comfort. The engine is rock solid and requires little more than preventive maintenance. Not a bad little bike for some weekend fun. All in all I have no complaints after putting 5000 miles on this quick little 750cc.

MY FIRST CRUISER WAS A 1995 HONDA MAGNA 750C IN PEARL YELLOW. I HAD HEARD THAT THIS BIKE WAS A CLOSE RELATIVE OF THE HONDA 750VFR, BUT I didn't REALIZE HOW CLOSE. THE BIKE WILL BLOW ANY OTHER CRUISER OFF THE LINE EXCEPT THE YAMAHA V-MAX WHICH IS MORE OF AN UGLY SPORT BIKE THAN A CHROMED-OUT CRUISER. THE MAGNA IS EXTREMELY QUICK (12.2 IN THE QUARTER), HANDLES LIKE A SPORT BIKE, AND TURNS HEADS LIKE A BUXOM BLONDE IN DAISY DUKES. I HAVE RACED EVERY CAR IMAGINABLE ON THIS BIKE. FROM FERRARIS TO PORSCHES TO ALL TYPES OF MUSCLE CARS. PEOPLE ARE AMAZED AT HOW QUICK THIS BIKE REALLY IS. THE FIRST THING I DID WAS RIP THE BAFFLES OUT OF THE FOUR INTO FOUR EXHAUST AND STRIPPED OFF THE REFLECTORS AND SIGNALS. THE 4 CARB 4 CYLINDER ENGINE ROARED LIKE A HARLEY BUT didn't LEAK LIKE ONE AND I didn't NEED A SECOND MORTGAGE TO BUY IT ($3,500). IT HAS LOTS OF CHROME AND HAS ONE OF THE MOST COMFORTABLE SEATS I HAVE EVER HAD THE JOY OF PLACING MY POOPER ON.
THE NEGATIVE SIDES ARE THE BRAKES. THE FRONT IS A SINGLE DISC AND THE REAR IS A DRUM. THE BRAKES ARE QUITE MUSHY AND NEED SOME DISTANCE TO STOP THIS BEAST. I SWITCHED OVER TO A STEEL BRAIDED LINE IN THE FRONT WHICH HELPED A BIT, BUT I STILL CAN'T GET THE BEAST TO STOP QUICK ENOUGH TO SCARE ANY UNSUSPECTING PEDESTRIANS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BIKE TO ANYONE WANTING THE BEST OF BOTH THE CRUISER WORLD AND THE SPORTBIKE WORLD. IF YOU NEED MORE INFO. CHECK OUT WWW.MAGNARIDERS.COM. ENJOY AND HANG ON TIGHT!!!
