Just bought the bike from a friend this year (but sold it to my brother upon purchase of 01 929!). This bike does have good power for an oil cooled 4. My Kat's performance was woke up with addition of Yosh race pipe (very loud - but cool sound), jet and needle kit, timing advance, and K&N. This bike will run low 11s on the strip. I was also pleased with the looks (mine is blue and grey), it is an "older" rocket but still looks right next to the newer bikes of today. Gets great mileage too. After having the carbs gone thru, new plugs, and the valves adjusted have been getting close to 50 mpg at interstate speeds. Only problems we have experienced was some minor electrical problems with lighting and clutch-starter safety switch - quickly solved by reconnecting disconnects underneath the tank (probably related to multiple removals of fairing for tune-up). One other gripe is the difficulty of the removal of the fairing (single piece unit). Other than that really happy with the bike especially for price I picked it up for. This will be a great summer! good dealer Recently bought my 1993 GSX1100 from Cycleworld Suzuki.The motorcycle is very nice.It has tons of power and handles great.I had a problem with the chain which Cycleworld fixed immediately.I have had an excellent experience with this dealership and this motorcycle.I look forward to many enjoyable miles of riding on my GSX1100. I just bought my VX800 off the internet at Yahoo auction. It's a 1993 with 4,010 miles and I'm the second owner. I love v-twins that handle so that leaves out H-D's. This bike has low end grunt and cruises nicely at 65-70 MPH. What a find! Suzuki Thanks for a Great Bike! Show less

If you enjoy high revs, light weight, decent handing and good looks in one package, this is a bike worth considering. My bike's only mods are V&H complete exhaust and Metzeler MEZ4 tires. Riding in the twisties is where this bike shines. Keep the revs above 7000 rpm and the speed in a curve about 20-30 mph above the posted speeds and it is a sheer blast. Just point and go. With its light weight and good tires installed, mid-corner adjustments are not difficult. There really is not any bad engine buzzing at any rpm either. It is all tolerable. Shifting is classic Suzuki. Positive but with some slack involved. No missed shifts unless I screw up. The handlebars are standard attachment, not clip-ons. So they can be replaced with the multitude of choices of bars available very easily, for comfort purposes. Of course, I have to include some downsides too. Being only 400cc's, torque is virtually nonexistent below 4500 rpm in the higher gears. Depending on the situation, going uphill requires 2, sometimes 3 drops in the gears to keep momentum up. The most bothersome annoyance is the factory seat. Comfort is acceptable but the angle is really dumb. I find myself falling into the tank crotch first very often. Nothing I do stops me from sliding forward. On long trips, riding position begins to become a slight pain. I would average the comfort to being in the middle of the sport bike class though. Not real painful but not completely comfortable either. Reliability has been 100 percent except for a very occasional stall during idling. Once in a while it just dies, but starts immediately thereafter. If I hear that happening, a quick blip of the throttle cures it and I can avoid the stall. It happens so infrequently that I haven't got to concerned about it. If you want torque and light weight in one bike, get a YZF-R1 or something similar. If you want zippy fun, cheap insurance and good looks, consider one of these. I have got many comments and second-looks on this bike from many other riders. They were available from 1991-1993. The styling is "funky", but cleans up well with the 800's 21" wheel and w/o the backrest. The bars are too narrow; the 2000's are supposed to be wider. Great torquer, but a bit buzzy at speed (75+ mph). The 200/70-15 Metz ME88 works, as does a Protac driver's backrest. Visit us at www.intruderalert.com! Show less

I purchased my black/purple 92, with about 6,000 km, managed to put another 6,000km on the clock in next 2 yr. This bike handles very well in standard form and the engine provides smooth effortless response, will easily take you over the 200-km mark. No real maintenance problems and reasonable on fuel and tyres. Negatives, fuel tank little small, seat a bit uncomfortable after a couple of hours. Found this bike deceptive in appearance and manner and with right rider can easily keep up with most competition in a scratch. Overall good value and fun. Show less

Greatly underrated bike. Tons of character. Grunt factor defies horsepower figures and low center of gravity defies weight. Great handler with modified suspension. Upright ergonomics, glorious exhaust note, conservative good looks and unbeatable versatility make for a long term relationship. Totally unstressed, low maintenance motor and shaft drive means many trouble free miles (mine has 102,000 kms and is still very strong). No racy, one night stand. A bike to be happily married to. THIS IS A GREAT BIKE TO LEARN ON. HOWEVER, MAKING THE JUMP FROM CAR TO MOTORCYCLE CAN BE A LITTLE CONFUSING SUCH AS USING THE TRIP ODOMETER AS A GAS GAUGE AND NOT HAVING SELF-CANCELLNG DIRECTIONALS. THIS BIKE HAS PLENTY OF GET-UP-AN-GO FOR A BEGINNER AND IT'S LIGHT WEIGHT WILL DEFINITELY HELP ANYONE WHILST MAKING A TURN. THE MAIN DETRACTION ABOUT THIS BIKE IS ITS PUNY GAS TANK. THE GAS TANK ON THIS AND ALL OTHER BIKES SHOULD BE AT LEAST TEN GALLONS IF NOT MORE. THAT WAY YOU WOULD REALLY GET YOUR MONEYS' WORTH OUT OF THE GAS THAT COSTS SO MUCH. Show less

I purchased my Katana 1100 new in 92. It now has over 46,000 trouble free miles. The only problem has been with the mirror stalks. Suzuki has redesigned the pivot point where the original ones failed. The bike has near new compression, doesn't "burn" oil and has been as reliable as an anvil. Tires are getting hard to find because of the odd sizes. Metzeler MEZ2's seem to work best. The bike is heavy, that is its only drawback, as far as I can tell. It's an excellent bike for "sport-touring". But its weight and skinny tires disqualify it from any real 10 tenths riding. However, it handles far better than you'd think of such a heavy bike. I can't break this bike. It always runs great, never has given me any trouble. Show less
