The 87 Honda Hurricane 600 was a remarkable motorcycle that set the standards for all around performance, reliability, comfort, and even fit and finish for it's day. Now, 13yrs later it is still a competent and fun do it all sport bike/tourer. Reliability: 5 stars. After 50,000 hard miles, many of them on racetrack and many of them 2 up, this motorcycle still surprises me with its overall tight feel and crisp appearance. Complete list of mechanical problems so far: 1. fuel pump needed to be repaired. 2. Ignition fuse blew. 3. Headlight burned out twice. 4. Cam chain due to be replaced but bike still runs great. Watch for cam pitting on high mileage examples. My wife's is just showing signs of wear at 50,000. Ergonomics: 4 star. This bike could be considered a sport tourer. I've put in multiple 400 mile days 2-up with only slight discomfort. The seat can get a little sharp edged after about 200 miles, otherwise I'd rate it 5-stars for comfort. Power: 3-star. In it's day it would have been 5-star. The power is still good. It will still indicate 147mph on the speedo just like it did brand new. Handling: 3.5 star. All around good handling. The bike feels light but steers slightly heavy. The front-end feel is a little vague when pushed very hard. Metzler comp K's are easily the best tire for this bike. It will need an after market shock ad stiffer fork springs for serious sport riding. The brakes are ok, and the stock pads are best for initial bite. When shopping for a used Hurricane 87-90, shop on stock condition and appearance as those year models are very similar except that the 90 was supposed to have 10 additional hp. If you find one of these in good shape for the right price, buy it. The Hurricane still turns heads and after a day in the saddle you will be surprised how good of an all around sport bike the Hurricane is.
